Again, there's a clip on MHP Private Parts about this but it seemed forever when they faded out BBC1 into darkness before the News Report appeared. Poor old Sissons seemed flustered that night and he couldnt even get a black tie. lol

I recall seeing some clips of BBC2 coming out of its programme about 30 seconds too early before the Queen Mother announcement - BBC1 weren't ready to go so 2 was stuck with a still ident and the announcer.

They've always had a system for doing such a thing - via the 'Red Phone' system. But of course that's not an automatic system

Indeed, the ITV equivilent of a network recall. With ITV having less of a networked structure and presumably no ability to force regions to join ITN, I'm surprised there wasn't one region that didn't and carried on as normal

It was Outtake TV which was on BBC1. The fade to black went on for ages, then of course they went over to Peter Sissons and it all went wrong from there on.
ITV1 did it much smoother with the only problem being Mary Nightingale was in 16:9 for a bit

I'm sure that you have got it on tape Kaplinsky (and therefore probably correct) but on the downloads I've got we had on BBC TWO some comedy programme and on BBC ONE a man was talking about code red and what the FBI and Microsoft are saying about it.

or the fact that it is a cheap filler which the BBC dig out frequently on Saturdays

Outtake TV again! So it was interrupted for the Queen Mother's Death and it was cancelled last night (does anyone know when it will be rescheduled for?). Looks like they aren't having the best of luck with news reports.

Frequently? I never realised; I thought it hasn't been on since Christmas. I guess I must have missed it all then.

It wasn't, it was Auntie's Bloomers which was interrupted.

On the night of Diana's death, BBC 1 interrupted their late film twice (Borsaliano as I recall) for short news reports that she'd been taken to hospital following a car accident. At closedown, and for the first time ever, BBC 1 joined BBC World for the night. A prudent decision (taken without the knowledge she'd died of course) as by 5am BBC World ended up co-oridnating a full obit.
At 6.30am, BBC1 took over running the "BBC Television" service with an announcement over the Family Ident which has been mentioned on another thread today and introduced a news programme from the National news studio with Marytn Lewis:

News rolled on and on for more or less the rest of the day, with BBC 2 only leaving joint coverage in the afternoon for a cricket match.
It's interesting to compare this to the way the BBC in particular covered the Queen Mother's death. BBC 1, 2 and World were only joined for the initial announcement and the playing of the National Anthem and a short while afterwards with both BBC 2 and BBC World leaving the joint News programme much sooner than when Diana died. Each channel introduced the announcements over their own idents as by this time, the idea of a Family Ident had been dropped (though one had been designed when the square |B|B|C| logo was introduced - the one still used on BBC DVDs and Videos). It was unfortunate for the BBC to be trying to introduce the dancers idents that weekend - as people dancing around seemed highly inappropriate. They used a blurred, mute, still from Caopeira in the end, as well as a still from Ballet on another occasion:

What day of that week did she die? As I remember at the time that the whole country and TV itself went rather quiet that week, where there was nothing but News and fillers. I do remember when they showed Mother Teresa's Funeral, though the only channels that showed it were Sky News and CNN, primarily because it was happening at 7.00am on a Saturday morning!
(Though watching that video then made me think of The Naked Gun 33,1/3 spoof, "Mother Teresa, The Musical")

The roll call must be a heck of a lot quicker nowadays. Just Scottish and Ulster, plus Channel if it's during their manned hours.
I remember when it would just be for some minor timing change and the roll call used to take three times longer than passing the information.
