Where could you find any live coverage of news 24 from 9 / 11?
NW
NewsWatch
Does anyone know what will happen if there is a news report after the digital swich off? Will there be a little on screen message or will they break from the schedule to bring us the news.

Also I know this sound silly but would there be a national studio? They wouldn't need it as everyone would have BBC News 24 and everyone would just have to change channel to find ou the latest news.

Well i thought it was an interesting point to make. Wink

On a not unrelated note, there's a good book I got five or six years ago about a selection of news events which have interrupted radio programmes from 1926 (General Strike) to 1997 (Death of Diana), including an audio CD of said interruptions.

BBC1 didn't break into programmes on September 11th 2001. Immediately after Neighbours finished, they showed the News Report slide (during the balloon years, of course) and cut into BBC News 24 with John Nicolson and Valerie Sanderson.

As for Diana, I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling they had a News Report with Martyn Lewis and eventually ended up joining BBC World with Nik Gowing overnight. Bearing in mind, of course, that BBC News 24 did not exist then.

There's a clip on the MHP Private Parts featuring the end of Neighbours going straight into the News Report from 9/11. Speaking of which, I bought a "cracking" DVD yesterday featuring 3 documentarys about 9/11 featuring 24 Hours from Ground Zero, 7 Days in September and A Year at Ground Zero. All very good from the people concerned.

I think your right about Diana, I think BBC1 broke away a couple of times or at least flashed up a message about Diana and then went straight to BBC World for a couple of nights and also if I remember correctly, the night before Diana's funeral. They replaced the globe with a picture of Diana with datemarks from birth to death with the national anthem in the background for closedown.

Coverage about the breakout of news across the night and day about Diana can be found
here

The evening before Diana's funeral was the announcement of Mother Theresa's death which I think was announced at 7.30 pm that night. I've got a clip of that which I encoded from a few years ago of that annoucement. Sadly, a woman who did a lot more for the world than Diana and yet the coverage about this was largely swept under the newsroom floor and indeed the rest of the media due to the scale of the Diana coverage [

russnet, would you be able to upload the said clip of the announcement of Mother Theresa's death, please?

It's not a problem uploading the file, unfortunately my FTP is playing up. Does anyone where I can upload it to or if I email it to someone for them to host it?

When the Queen Mother died, they interrupted a Chefs Edition of Weakest Link. I have it on tape.

On ITV it was Glen Thompsett who interrupted a dreadful programme about clever pets for the Queen Mother news.

It was before network continuity, but LWT, as the nominated contractor, took control of the entire network.

I'm sure that you have got it on tape Kaplinsky (and therefore probably correct) but on the downloads I've got we had on BBC TWO some comedy programme and on BBC ONE a man was talking about code red and what the FBI and Microsoft are saying about it.

Wasn't BBC2 showing Steptoe and Son?

They were, yes. The two were discussing Scrabble words when the picture faded out to black, and into a News Report slide for ages before Peter Sissons popped up.

I recall seeing some clips of BBC2 coming out of its programme about 30 seconds too early before the Queen Mother announcement - BBC1 weren't ready to go so 2 was stuck with a still ident and the announcer.
