KXAN - Austin TX ( 30.10.15 - 12:45pm UK /7:51am TX ) is in live coverage of confirmed tornado early this morning. The meteorologist is smooth and calmly dispensing information. Quite good actually for a young guy. He seems to be running the show solo at the moment, until the rest of his colleagues arrives at the station. Its difficult to do analysis and speak and watch multiple sources of data and warn people. This station has a technology that allows the on air meteorologist to control things on the chroma wall. Sorta like a touchscreen-esque capability.

You're right. the meteorologist was saying its a strange time of year for central TX. But there is actually a 2nd active tornado season in November for the mid-South.
Seems to have ramped up again and moved up toward Austin, TX. The live pictures are amazing. Job well done. I say.
KXAN has been on nonstop for several hours this morning.

I've seen meteorologists anchor solo quite a few times in situations like this. I think it's just that they're often the only people with the expert knowledge to cover fast-moving situations like tornadoes in a way that's useful to viewers. And, when you need to get on air quickly, it makes sense to scramble the best-qualified person to do the job.
I'm sure it was a deliberate choice, as they'd have plenty other people in the building. They had a full team on air before 7 for their morning newscast, and would have been doing inserts into the Today show at 7.25 and 7.55.

Yeah most stations have usually 1 meteorologist scheduled and of course he was already on air when the severe weather started, doing the normal breakfast broadcast. Most stations have a team of trained meteorologists and when situations like this occur they can draw on the experience and bring in the rest of the team. And he did a good job for such a young guy and held down the fort until the chief meteorologist arrived a few hours later and then assisted him and providing coverage. Its a lot of bells and whistles for one person to keep track of with multiple warnings coming and trying to analyze the storm at the same time. Well done to him. KXAN has been on their air for hours now and they are still on now. They just bought in a 3rd meteorologist and the the young guy and the chief must be taking a break.
Update: He's back. Poor guy...must be shattered. http://kxan.com/author/david-yeomans/

KCCI 8 - Des Moines Iowa - Live tornado coverage. Tornadoes now approaching the most populated city in Iowa (pop 650k). Interesting to watch team coverage and the deployment of resources and technology on the fly.
update - The meteorologist on KCCI saw a tornado in the radar minutes before the National Weather Service made it official and issued an official tornado warning. Pretty amazing.

Alternatively you can watch coverage in Spanish courtesy of Telemundo 39.

Edit : Thought I should include their sister station, KXAS, the NBC station in DFW. http://www.nbcdfw.com/weather/stories/NBC-5-Forecast.html
One thing I noticed is that they are sharing video feeds where for the most part the reporters in the field are out of frame but the video is shown with out audio. One key difference in coverage is that the Telemundo meteorologist is in full control - he doesn't have another meteorologist controlling the computer which is why you see all the buttons on screen.
