The Weather Channel is about to ramp up the quality of the Augmented Reality graphics they. It will be interesting to see what is created from their partnership with THE FUTURE GROUP.
Judging by the previous use of AR and the promo pic provided by FG, the Weather Channel will continue to use this tech to explain the complexities of weather and make it engaging to the viewer. This will be interesting to see how it will change from their current use of AR Tech on air now.

In 2016 KNBC started touting their doppler network by installing their own x-band radars in areas where the NWS or the FAA’s TDWR radars don’t cover. The advertised a southern doppler in San Diego that would be online in late October 2016. Well it never launched and about two years later it finally got the green light and was licensed by the FCC. I imagine a lot of the hold up was frequency coordination with the Mexican government.
I’m not sure if they installed it yet but it’s a EEC Ranger X-5 radar outputting 500 Watts with a range of 100 miles. It’s the same radar they have on their Storm Rangers.
I made a map showing the different radar sites and where they’re based. You can see how close it is to the Mexican border and it’s actually further south of KNBC’s San Diego sister station KNSD. All the NBCU radars they’ve installed and gotten have their data shared amongst the stations.

NBC also installed their own radars in Miami, Dallas, Chicago and NY some of those markets also have truck based mobile doppler units. Interesting that Southern CA has 3. But it is a major population center so likely that is the rationale. And NBC owns the stations in both LA and SD. Strange that they didnt install on in the Bay Area. But rain isnt a huge concern in Southern CA IMO. I would have thought they would have installed seismographs or something. Seems like Dallas and South Florida would be a greater candidate for multiple radar sites as North Texas is in Tornado Alley and Miami is vulnerable to hurricanes.

South Florida and Dallas are relatively flat. Chicago and NY they went to relatively higher areas to position theirs. Those four are far more powerful output wise and terms of distance. Where as these are gap fillers essentially for all the valleys and mountains.
The fixed radars are S Band and have a range of over 600km/372 Miles.

Small bit of levity and probably one of the funniest segments on WGN. The meteorologist Tom Skilling has been on air for WGN for decades and is the high paid meteorologist in the US. He is a know of being a mild, gentle and slightly nerdy chief meteorologist. Thats what makes this segment during the morning show even more hilarious to watch. "IM TOM FREAKIN' SKILLING!"
Still makes me laugh after all these years.

KRCR TV - Redding Ca had to evacuate live on air because of approaching wildfire that are raging across the state of California. The ending shot from the tower cam was amazing and sad to see. They do have another studio in the city of Eureka CA that they had to transfer staff to. This small station is stretched to the limit. They returned to the station hours later. With limited staff has gone live wall to wall coverage on air all night. You can hear how exahusted they are continue to provide road closure and evacuation and shelter information to the viewers. Shows the real value of local news. YOu can watch live coverage here https://krcrtv.com/watch

I almost forgot there used to be a weather forecast on Arte, the French-German channel. Here's one from almost 10 years ago, at 0:38 in the following video.
Notice how, while the idents were changed in 2008, the weather forecast's design kept the 2007-like presentation.
Also noteworthy, the weather bulletin was named "Le Ciel / Der Himmel" which just translates as "The Sky"; and the few seconds of sky at the beginning used to change every day – the end of the bulletin even details where and when it was filmed.
