What appears to be quite random, there is the NE & Cumbria version on BBC One HD Freeview. I'm in EY&Lincs.

Is this normal?

Was expecting London version or the holding message to retune to ch1

The show different regions each week.

The CA over the ident leading into Inside Out on BBC One HD usually explains that "this week's episode comes from such-and-such a region" and I think may also mention that you can switch over to SD to see your correct regional edition.

Any trailers promoting Inside Out are replaced with an ultra-generic version on BBC One HD, that just promotes the programme as a general concept (e.g. "surprising stories from where you live" or whatever), rather than featuring any presenter(s) and/or specific stories. Just a montage of generic clips that represent the kind of topics covered by the programme, with a voiceover.

Whenever there's a "themed week" across all Inside Our regions (like tonight's NHS theme), the trailer even in the SD regions is mostly/entirely generic anyway (apart from the suffix on the endcap). So, a near-identical trailer goes out on HD (without any of the token/shoehorned regionalism).

When BBC One show Inside Out on the HD channel, the playout is done from network. I'd suspect what happens is the local gallery only has to show the ident, then switch back.

I'm not sure that's the case. I think the region being featured on BBC One HD will necessarily have to opt out as usual, since the ECP is 'burned in' and region-specific, whereas the ECP on HD trails the next week's edition from whichever region happens to be featured next.

The regions opt out of Network 1 SD not BBC 1HD, so I'm not sure what the sustaining service is during Inside Out ? Perhaps it is the edition that is on HD ?

That's what I thought. The network CA also introduces the Inside Out edition on HD at least.

On the very first showing of Inside Out when BBC One HD launched they did use a BBC One Midlands ident but they haven't used regional idents on HD since.

Was it a NET CA or a pre-recorded Midlands CA?

Though often the idents are burned onto these programmes like the ECPs, as regions lack the kit or capability and resources to do such things live.

I'm sure the regions could do it live if they wanted or needed to, it's just easier not to

Well yes the regions have microphones and the capability to fade them up over ' VT' . But what would be the point?

Much easier and slicker to just edit an ident onto the top of the programme
