If you could -

axe newsreaders (from BBC News 24, BBC News, Sky News, ITV News, regional news programmes)

promote newsreaders

move newsreaders (to another news channel/programme)

...who would it be?

Here's mine

News 24 : axe Joanna Gosling, Chris Lowe, Martine Croxall, Deborah Mackenzie, Liz Pike and Carrie Gracie

BBC News : axe Kaplinsky!

Sky News : axe James Rubin

Reporting Scotland : axe David Henderson, Sally McNair, Abeer Mackyntre and Penny Macmillan. (Jackie Bird/David Robertson/Sally Magnusson are the only decent newsreaders!)

PROMOTE - Jane Hill has to go to the Six! Would like to see Louise Minchin replace Anna Ford though I don't think that will happen. Give Alastair Yates a designated weekday N24 shift! I'd like to see Martin Stanford appointed World News Tonight presenter and move someone like Martin Popplewell to his Sky News Today shift.

MOVE - Sissons back to the Ten. Alagiah to BBC World and Big Moira to a National News bulletin.

News 24 : axe Jake Lynch, Chris Lowe, Carrie Gracie, Chris Eakin

BBC News : axe: Breakfast, Natasha Kaplinsky and Louisa Preston. 10, Fiona Bruce

Sky News : axe James Rubin and Anna Jones

BBC Midlands Today : axe Denise Lewis and Patrick Burns, scab!

PROMOTE

Suzanne Virde and Karin Ginaole

MOVE

Mishal Hussein and Peter Dobbie as main Breakfast presenters with Bill and Sian as weekend (Fri-Sun) and "special" on location presenters. Breakfast would leave it's current studio in favour of the N24 one. Would have a pres relauch and would use the N24 set alot more as well as having lot's more specials and reviews. Follow the previous format of Serious for desk and Lite from sofa.

Louise Michin would take the one with Darren Jordan as weekend lead (Fri-Sun)

The Six would become more like the World Today (Double presenter but only one dealing with News and the Other either Buisness or Sport)
Jane Hill and Fiona Bruce would be the lead's for the Six with either Declan Curry or Mary Rodes been co-presenter.
The format would resemble The World Today with a presenter intro then headlines and titles with a re-cap and exit bed to the regions.

The Ten would remain on it's current footing of International News and In-Depth reporting and Arts but would also become double headed with one presenter always "on-location" (Huw Edwards) and Studio lead from Alaister Yates. The Ten would run from Mon-Fri.

There would be a whole sale revamp of pres for the National News Programme but all remaining with a set guideline, not as current. It would probably reflect Worlds/N24's pres just with BBC News and the Web URL. And of course the laminate shoebox would be destroyed...

News 24 Axe Kate Silverton, move her permanently to Breakfast. Move Sissons to current affairs programmes and promote Simon McCoy to Breakfast full time. Kate and Simon collaborate very well indeed.

ITV News Ditch Andrea Catherwood, her superficial and smarmy smile doesn't do it for me. Promote Alastair to the 10.30 and Owen Thomas to more ITV1 activity.

BBC News Axe Huw Edwards from then Ten O Clock News, move him over to work on current affairs programmes along with Fiona Bruce. Promote George and Mishal Hussein to their places. Darren should take over full One O Clock News duties when Anna retires.

My Region-Calendar Promote Gemma Calleja and Michelle Gee to occasionally present the full flagship pogramme at six.

Here are my choices for BBC News:

Axe: Anna Ford, Joanna Gosling, Chris Lowe, Fiona Bruce

I would move Dermot Murnaghan to the 10 and he would share it with Huw Edwards.
I would have Sophie Raworth on the weekend news summaries when she returns - until then have Dermot or Huw alternating.
I would have George Alagiah and Natasha Kaplinskly on the 6.
I would keep Darren Jordon as the main presenter of the 1.
For Breakfast I would have Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams weekdays and Simon McCoy and Kate Silverton on weekends.

I'm mostly satisfied with the way the current line up's are, but I'd change a couple of things.....

BBC News: Get rid of Kaplinsky and Silverton, reinstate Philip Hayton.
ITV News: Promote Alastair Stewart and as said give Owen Thomas a more active role.

Locally....

North West Tonight: Get another presenter to go alongside Gordon Burns.
Granada Reports: Tell Tony and Lucy to tone down and shut up. Laughing

Interesting. I note how they don't look at the good side of Kate's presenting with authorative style yet being relaxed and friendly, instead criticising her and everything she has done.

that's because it's a tabloid newspaper. plus the story is about 3 months old?

I didn't read the date - I suppose it would explain why it is so critical.

no i think the date is irrelevant. I'd say the article is critical because it's a typical tabloid character assassination

Carrie Gracie is an odd one: by all accounts, she is actually a China expert, and is good on the World Service. Why she continues to present on N24 on Saturday mornings is a bit odd.

There was something in today's 'Sunday Mercury'(Midlands newspaper)
about both Suzanne Virdee & Louisa Preston could be replacements for Kaplinsky.

Personally I haven't got a problem with most newsreaders apart from Kaplinsky nationally(too ambitious for my liking, plus she simpers!) & Denise Lewis locally.

Lewis is ok prerecorded as she can retake any fluffs, but live, she is rubbish. If MT must have a token bird as a sports presenter, I'll put up with Alison Marsh, or is she too busy with her knitting still ?
