What would you do to change BBC News and BBC News 24?

Would you introduce new graphics?
Axe, shuffle round the newsreaders?
Introduce new newsreaders?
Introduce new bulletins, programmes, or interactive features?
Change the weather format?
Make changes to Breakfast?
or anything else?

I'm interested to here your ideas.

I would tweak the graphics, they are not to bad but some refreshments wouldn't go a miss.

Definently shuffle the newsreaders around. This would be my ideal BBC News national presenter line-up:

BREAKFAST TEAM
Darren Jordan
Simon McCoy
Sian Williams
Sophie Rayworth

2 presenters from Breakfast would be joined & each two couples would take turns to present the show i.e. -

Week 1
Darren & Sian

Week 2
Simon & Sophie

Week 3
Darren & Sian...and so

ONE O'CLOCK NEWS TEAM
Dermot Murnaghan
Chris Lowe
Anna Ford
Fiona Bruce

For the first time, the One O'Clock News would have 2 presenters & would be formatted like Breakfast with each 2 couples turning turns each week.

I would partner up:
Chris Lowe & Anna Ford - think they'd be awesome together
Dermot Murnaghan & Fiona Bruce - think they might be quite good together to!?

SIX O'CLOCK NEWS TEAM
Chris Eakin
Bill Turnbull
Jane Hill
Moira Stewart

Chris & Jane - would be partenered up, think they're good
Bill & Moira - not sure. However, would be worth the test

and the best for last. Ten O'Clock News would be replaced by...

...BBC NEWS TONIGHT
a new bulletin which would have different graphics, and a major/up-to-date studio

There would be 2 presenters & the bulletin would run from 10 - 11pm, Monday-Friday.

PRESENTER LINE-UP
George Alagiah
Huw Edwards

- Huw & George would be put together Monday-Friday on the show.

All the day's news would be featured, along with a 5 minute weather INTERNATIONAL news forecast. There would be the inclusion of business and sport headlines from presenters from that genre.

Every night there would be a different guest, suitable for interviewing based on the day's news & events,

e.g. Margaret Thatcher dies, interview John Major or something like that.

Would you have something like this or something completely different?

We've been here time and time again - FANTASY NEWSROOM. Probably best suited in the lounge.
TE
TELEVISION
Probably get a torrent of abuse, but anyway.

BREAKFAST

Bill and Sian with Gillian Joseph at the newsdesk.

ONE

Dermot / Sophie

SIX

Moira / Darren

TEN

George and Fiona / Darren and Moira

WEEKEND

Natasha / Matthew

I would keep the One and Six 30 minutes long, but extend the Ten to a full hour with an emphasis on international stories and politics. Plus I would have Huw as chief correspondent for the Ten, with him often presenting on location, with two other presenters in the studio.

Isn't that a little too similar to Newsnight?

BBC News without exploding globes.
I guess my ideal BBC News would be simular to how it was at the 99 corporate launch. I used to love the national studio with the "circles" desk and real newsroom backdrop, that and "The 6 Breifing". I also think now News 24 has established itself it should go more in-depth, longer weather forcasts and business updates with an International agenda.
Breakfast would be scrapped on News 24 and replaced with European Breakfast as seen on BBC World.
Natasha would become a reporter, her *cough* talents *cough* are wasted in front of a camera.
Moira would actually present a proper bulletin like the one or ten. Come on the poor women looks so bored on Breakfast, I saw her putting her lippy on the other day as the camera panned out for regions and nations news.

Leave Natasha alone!! She'd be lost reporting and has said herself she is 'not' a reporter and has a lot of respect for them but she is first and foremost a broadcaster/presenter and a very good one at that bearing in mind the recent award at the TRICs. Sorry to remind you all!!

More like similar to BBC Four/World News

I'd have quite drastic changes.

I've said for a long time I'd move Newsnight to BBC1, airing from 10pm-10.50pm (f/b Regional News). Paxman would move with it - and perhaps Huw could also be a regular Newsnight host.

The World on BBC4 would become BBC2's main bulletin at 8pm - fronted by Kirsty Wark (other presenters - Fiona Bruce, George Aligiah). It would be more in the style of the old BBC 4 News than having a single issue. On BBC4 at 8.30pm you'd then get something like "Today in Parliament". On Fridays you would have either their media show (The Brief?) or The World Extra, which looks at an international story in more depth.

I don't think I'd have drastic changes to the 6pm News - but IMO the BBC 3 bulletin is far superior and more deserving of the slot, though I'm not sure it would work.

BBC 3 News / 60 Seconds would be rebranded Newsbeat, with hourly bulletins from 7pm to 10pm then a 15 minute edition at 11pm. There would be cross promotion of the bulletin between Radio 1 and BBC 3 - kind of promoted as On air during the day on Radio 1, during the night on BBC 3.

I'd also like to see at least the 1pm bulletin simulcast with signing on News 24 - especially as at that time all they do is a signed bulletin of there own.

And any BBC News specials on BBC1/2 would be branded BBC News, not BBC News 24, though especially for breaking news they could still come from the News 24 studio.

As for the main studio - I think the News 24 studio looks better so would like to see something similar on BBC1. Failing that, at least using the backdrop to illustrate stories.

Astons would change to be more like the 6pm "Headlines" strap.

I'd get a projector screen for World and make the news presenter stand up at the beginning, be far more effective IMHO.

Get rid of this news presenter/business presenter start up on World simply because BBC World News has Sport as well.

TOG needs to be updated.

Arrow BBC National News

Change the astons so it matches News 24 complete with animation, the titles to be far more better then just an imitation of News 24.

Arrow BBC News 24

It's quite good these days, no real changes needed, except Sportsday should be more like Sport Today on BBC World.

Location strap needs modification so you don't end up with a red rectangle with nothing on it.

My only substantial change would be one of presentation.

Bring back (something similar to) the 1993-1999 bulletin format - style, music, astons, etc.

I agree with the points above - the preentation of news from 1993-1999 was FANTASTIC - I like the idea of each bulletin having a slightly different colour scheme (e.g the 9 [as it was them] had a darker theme)

Presenter wise, I definitely think that Moira should have a more substantial role in newscasting and therefore should be on a more-watched bulletin - like the '6'.

Yes, the bit I liked from that era was the music - so authoritative, and each programme had its own signature tune. I think my favourite was the Six O'clock News - that had a wonderful music package.
