It'll cover the word "Thames" in relation to broadcasting

'Thames Radio' the SW London FM radio station had no problems (before it went bust and was replaced by Radio Jackie). Although I seem to recall Thames Radio did have ex Thames TV directors on the board..

One of the founders was an Ex-Thames Director... a TV director though, not an executive director of Thames TV (IIRC he directed a lot of their light entertainment output). They also started their pilots (as Kingston and latterly Palace FM) in the foyer of Teddington Studios

BTW it lost a lot of money, but never actually went bust. The owners sold it (and its debts) to Radio Jackie for a pound. RJ are doing a much better job of running it

There was a TV repair shop for many years with a very similar name to Thames TV without it being a problem

I'm slowly getting used to Wesley now. He seems like a good anchor who really wants to get to know the viewers. Getting sick of Mary now. Good first week so far, although I hate that burst of light inbetween reports. It's so cheesy...

Reminds me of the TV rental shop, YTV Rentals, over the road from Yorkshire TV. Very Happy

BBC Oxford must be gutted! Surely they would've wanted "Thames Valley Today" for when the South Today sub-opt finally goes full-time? I wonder what name they'll think of now?

Not really comparing like with like though - as the BBC Oxford region is much smaller as it doesn't include the Hannington transmitter (i.e. the ex-Meridian Newbury bit) and therefore doesn't include a large part of the Thames Valley.

Unless they fully split (including Breakfast and weekends) rather than just splitting at Lunchtime and at 1830 (if they do) - then I'd expect South Today branding to remain.

(The BBC One feed broadcast by Hannington is a rebroadcast - of Rowridge - a BBC South transmitter - I think - and isn't directly fed, and cannot therefore be easily split, unlike ITV1 from the same transmitter, which is fed directly)

I look forward to see exactly how this Thursday's "Meridian Soccernight" is presented then ?

So did the Thames Valley get Meridian Soccernight on Thursday?

I don't know, I didn't get home in time.

I can confirm from making a few phone calls that Oxford is now indeed fed from the South Bank and not Leeds, but that's not to say Hannington and Oxford can't carry separate non news programmes. The ads certainly differ, but most of Oxford's national ads match those as seen on Central W and E, and not Hannington, so I assume Oxford is still being sold as 'Central' region and not Meridian ?

Meridian West did. Central South had Nick Hancock and Sarah Jane.

Well there we are then, it's not (yet) a stand alone region, but still two subs that only share the local news.

By the way, has anyone seen the ITV Local website that Wesley keeps going on about on TVT? What's up with the main page?

I has to laugh when I saw the title of the webpage located at http://www2.meridiantv.com

Sorry to ruin the topic by posting that, I just couldn't resist Rolling Eyes

From what I can gather, the old Meridian West opt will get Meridian local programming, where as Central South will still get Central programming. Regional news and weather come from Meridian on both opts.

New Weather Presenter tonight, Simon Parkin, apparantly he used to be a kids presenter on the BBC. Also nice to see Victoria Bennett presenting the sport tonight in the studio.

Wesley was off tonight so Ian Axton was standing in. Strange Wesley is off after only one week of the new programme. Confused
