The ITV regions map at ITV.com has still not been updated! Rolling Eyes

It's not actually a new ITV region though, is it? (i.e. not a new ITV franchise area) Isn't it simply several regions chopping off part of their patch (similar to a sub-opt) but clubbing together to providing a common service?

It's being described officially as a new "news" region. They didn't really make a big song and dance about it in the first TVT. Central news seemed to do more weirdly,,,

So technically is Oxford still part of the ITV Central region as far as the regional franchise goes? Or has it been given to Meridian now as part of their Thames Valley Service?

Legally, as far as Ofcom is concerned, yes it'll have to stay as part of Central's franchise for now.

The Astra satellite descriptions have remained as Central South for Oxford and Meridian North for Hannington.

I was waiting to be amused on Monday, given the split commercial requirement, if Central South had become Thames Valley North and Meridian North had become Thames Valley South. That would have confused Mr Punter!

In any case, if they formally change the region names, I expect there is more than one lawyer over at Freemantle Media waiting to see how the copyrighted word "Thames" fits into things.

I see that the 6:35 bulletin on GMTV this morning was an expanded Meridian pan regional effort, it carried on Hannington and Oxford.

There you go.

You've now answered your own question, from elsewhere, on which is the controlling region and where the playout must come from.

(Yes, I do know the network's configured differently during GMTV.)

I look forward to see exactly how this Thursday's "Meridian Soccernight" is presented then ?

I've just watched some of yesterday's 10.55am bulletins and the introductory stories are quite interesting

On Central News the presenter welcomed viewers in Herefordshire to Central News for the first time in 17 years. Although surely they've always been watching 'Central News' at this time!

Over on Thames Valley Today and Wesley's first story was about 'rail cuts in Oxfordshire and Berkshire'. Nice way to mention both parts of the region straightaway!

Well I don't wish to offend but I have seen a number of people posting praise about Wes Smith.

I have seen a few snippets from you know where and I can't say that I was particularly impressed. I have been racking my brain, trying to think who he sounds like and now it has come to me. He sounds exactly like Nicholas Parsons!!

He seems to read the news in Nicholas Parsons Sale of the Century styley - very surreal.

I dont feel Mary and Wesley are a good pairing at all at the moment. I know it will take time but the banter just seemed false and forced. Wesley isnt acting his usual self. Lets hope on friday with Hannah things will be how they used to be. As for the content at the moment I think its garbage.

That's an interesting point that I hadn't considered. Surely they just came up with the name to conveniently title a 'region', didn't they? They wouldn't have even thought of the possibly of trading on a quality commerical television brand? (If Carlton and Granada even look like dragging down the name of Thames with them then Freemantle should throw knives as well as lawyers!)
