What bulletins did Huw present from the virtual 1993-1999 studio? I just wondered because he couldn't have went from being an occasional newsreader on BBC1 to the main anchor of the Six in 1999 (or did he?).

Huw was originally a political correspondent for BBC News 24, and I think he very occasionally presented summaries on BBC One pre-1999. I think there's a screengrab of him doing so on The TV Room. He was then chosen to anchor the Six O'clock News on BBC One after the 1999 re-launch. From memory, it was quite a radical promotion.

Huw has long been on our screens here in hen wlad fy nhadau on Wales Today, the old Welsh politics show pre-Jeremy Vine opt-out. He also presented Newsnight, and also presents Songs of Praise now and then.

Also, around election times, he has presented a programme made by BBC Wales called Election Exchange filmed at the refurbished Coal Exchange (geddit) in Cardiff - I went to the one edition in the General Election 2001 series that he was ill (doh!)

People think Huw's dull - but I think he's struggling to make the adjustment from the Six - the friendly news for single mums - to the Ten - the REAL news for REAL people (with money) He's trying to be too serious.

Maybe hes getting fed up of the 10. Wonder how time consuming his job is?

Well I wrote to Huw About a Year Ago and he did bother to reply! I think with Huw you can either like the accent or not. Its the accent not the way he say everything. That is like Derek Brockway on Wales Today, he sounds boring if he talks but when he adds lots of breath to what he is saying it sounds brilliant. On my past 2 tours (im going on my third soon) of TVC, the tour guides have always commented on Huw. That he is very friendly and that he would talk himself away from what he is doing! I like Fiona aswell but not as much as Huw!!

I may be wrong but....
When he was doing the 6 he lived in Wales still. He commuted to London daily, getting there about 3 in the afternoon then coming home for about 9. Now he must live in London or at least have a pad there.

I know this because when he was doing the Six during the 2001 election campaign he was scheduled to do an edition of Election Exchange (see my above post) which went out live at 10:35pm - a night he was presenting the Six, and the stand-in host told us his usal routine.

My sister has knows one of the make up artists at the TVC who mainly looks after the newsreaders. She says that Huw is by far the most pleasant, and in fact that Fiona is rather cold and condescending.

Strange attitude from a student of journalism - aren't you interesting in seeing a range of styles/approaches to news stories?

my academic and non-academic personae are different. I read the Mirror, Western Mail and watch BBC News 24 personally, but do not discount the validity of the Express, Star or ITVN. I hate and disregard anything connected with Murdoch with the exception of Sky Sports when Wales are playing football. I'm only human. Shocked
