It's heart-breaking to see many people losing their homes, but at the same time there are many people in the Tsunami affected areas from January's disaster, that are still homeless and children losing their Parents.

Indeed, disasters and loss of life of this magnitude happen fairly regually.... the only diffrence with this one is that it has happened in the USA.

Just looking at a forward-planning diary, and I notice that there was due to be a court hearing on Wednesday to set a trial date for another lawsuit against Michael Jackson. The venue? US District Court, 500 Poydras Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, US!

CNN are quoting it's a 'TRAGEDY OF GREAT PROPORTIONS'.

Yeah right! 60 people dead in the richest country in the world. Billions will be spent on getting the place back to normal, probably by the end of the year. It's been well over a year since the tsunami and they're still homeless.

Much as it's not all Americans who believe this tripe, a lot do, and the US media carries a lot of the blame for this.

600 people have just died in Iraq and not a mention is made. When the US are indirectly responsible for these deaths, you'd have thought they'd have given it some thought.

Come on all you sane Americans, let your voices be heard and speak up against this awful self-interest.

Don't you feel stupid now? Letting your anti-American prejudices cloud rational judgement of a disaster? Hope you never get into the new business.

And I hope you don't normally speak to people like that!

I think Moz underlines an important injustice in our modern world. As one poster put it so aptly following the stampede in Baghdad; Just what is the current price of an American life?
It is a sad reality that many who were made homeless during the Boxing Day Tsunami (almost 10 fold wildest US estimates on Dead/Wounded) remain homeless and at risk of death.

But it would be silly to draw comparrisons between the two; after all they are totally different events. I don't think Moz was been Anti Anything he was just commenting on the enormas focus which many news organisations are placing on Hurricane Katrina.

Fair enough Matrix. I didn't mean the post to come over just as unmannerly as I see it did when I rerread it again! Forgive me Moz. Embarassed

It's quite a philosophical discussion, what is the cost of an American life vis a vis someone from another country. But in the TV news business it comes down simply to a few practical matters as far as I can see:

1. Do we have great pictures? (TV news reporters, crews etc. aren't based where the news is. The news is where the TV reporters, crews are)

2. The closer to the UK (either geographically or how the victims live, look etc.) the more important the story, or at least the more coverage it will get
