Interesting chance to watch the coverage from a local perspective...

The weather presenter on WDSU just said "This is going to be the most frightening thing that's ever going to happen to you in your life."

This seems to be a lot more serious than the other storms the US has seen so far this year.

Have to say that I find it slightly amusing that we always have a boring topic about hurricanes when they stike land; this one, about Katrina, being the first one NOT started by Katherine.

Could New Orleans possibly be where the old wind-bag has gone?

Agreed that most of the time they aren't too interesting, but watching this they seem to be broadcasting to people who should have already been evacuated, so they're simucasting on radio.

It seems this is going to be much much more servere than recent storms, current talk is of massive floods being expected.

ITV News has just called it the worst hurricane the US has seen.

Now then, which country, exactly, was it that didn't sign the global warming treaty?

Apparently the winds will reach 175mph. Didn't know it was that serious.

I was in the Orlando (Sanford) Airport last year when Charley struck. Worrying times.

Up to 100,000 people are stranded in New Orleans, despite the orders to completely evacuate the city. They're queuing round the block to get into the shelters.

On the local coverage they're saying "If for some reason you're still watching us on TV, get out!"

A bit strange how the forcasters are using words like "impressive" and "good" to describe how big the hurricane is.

Thought I'd have a look around for live radio or TV from New Orleans, not much radio - don't know if that's normal or just because of the hurricane. At least one station has a message on its site saying that it signed off at midnight due to the storm

They were just talking to a reporter who's going to Baton Rouge to some sort of back-up TV place. I wonder how they decided who would stay behind in the studio? Might be an interesting watch as the hurricane passes over

Wonder what will happen when it passes over the studio?
