Been watching Fox News's coverage the last couple of days.

They seem to be suggesting it will hit New York sometime after sunrise tomorrow morning their time. Could be very interesting to see how it is handled when it does hit New York - will the stations like Fox News go off air or are they going to try and continue through it?

They'll probably all be ok from the actual storm, AFAIK the big broadcasters are all in large buildings in the middle of Manhattan. I believe that Fox News is in a very sturdy and protected basement. They would all have generators so could keep the back end stuff running if the power goes.

Fox News has a studio in Washington and of course CNN is Atlanta based so it won't affect them anyway. The local affiliate stations outside New York City would be worse affected, but presumably if they're not off air totally they'll just show the network or a sister station. The networks themselves are centred around NY and LA so they've at least that for redundancy

Not to pee on your parade but France 24 is now in 16:9.

Ahh, thanks, still 2 isn't many. 3 if you include Euronews, but that's not really international like the others.

Same with Fox News.

Looks like a much more no frills than the others, but then it's a smaller station and an affiliate of The CW

Isn't NBC's main New York affiliate based in the same building as Nightly News and msnbc? I seem to remember they're just upstairs, so I'd imagine they'd be fine. Also, Savannah Guthrie has tweeted that the entire Today show team are in tomorrow (Sunday) for a live special, presumably from New York, and Brian Williams was in for tonight's Nightly News in its regular studios and I'd imagine will do the same tomorrow night.

Very strange to see pictures of a deserted Times Square, right now.

WABC, WNBC and WCBS are also housed in their respective network's headquarters. WNBC is in 30 Rockefeller Center, which is quite a solid building, but WNBC has boarded up all the windows in their newsroom studio with plywood as a precaution. It's a surreal sight.

Plenty of people about. It may not be as busy as usual, but not deserted. I can hear people shouting and cheering as well as see them walk past the cameras.

EDIT : I can also see a satellite truck parked under the Kodak advert too.

that Mayor Bloomberg doesn't mess about, does he? Can you imagine if Boris had to give a press conference like that? Smile

A fair few transatlantic flights cancelled in the morning - what are the odds on the UK channels having someone down at Heathrow to report on the travel chaos?

Sorry to unleash my cynical New Yorker, but those people prancing about in front of that camera looking for attention are almost certainly tourists. For the most part, everybody here is staying indoors, and those that aren't listening to the government's warnings are being unbelievably stupid.

the ITV Morning News appears to mostly consist of last night's NBC Nightly News (in Dixonsvision, aka 12F16) - which is surprisingly jovial in tone, considering the severity of the storm. Al Roker on a beach in Long Island, and a correspondent in Times Square surrounded by some delegates in town for the World Police and Fire Games. (He joked that should things get out of hand, the 16,000 police and firemen could help out...)

CNN Domestic is showing in 16:9 on my tv, via sky. Always has done.

It can't possibly be, unless your TV is doing some sort of zooming, in which case you'd lose the CNN Int flipper at the bottom of the screen. I'm watching CNN right now (they're simulcasting with US at the moment) and it's being displayed as 16:9 in an overall 4:3 frame. CNN Int does not broadcast in 16:9, it's always been in 4:3. When it shows US, it shows the full 16:9 picture that Americans are seeing, but it remains within the Int 4:3 frame, meaning you get black bands.

No black lines to the left or right. It's a Samsung 8 series, 46"..

BBC News now speaking to an ABC News correspondent (Scott Golberg) in Times Square. They're also showing EarthCam pictures, complete with a mouse pointer right in the middle of the screen Smile
