As the networks ramp up their coverage, it's time for a thread about this impending storm which looks set to slam into New York this weekend.
FOX News are rolling continuous coverage as of 5pm BST (which is when I tuned in)
CNNI have finally ramped up their coverage, much of Connect The World was focussed on Irene. No doubt will switch to Domestic as Irene starts hitting in a couple of hours.
Sky News - not much as yet, although showing signs of ramping up their coverage. Ticker now showing Irene as a Breaking News story..
BBC NC - not much at all.
CNBC did an extra hour last night when normally they'd be showing Poker. Perhaps they will simulcast MSNBC later rather than their usual sports and filler programmes at weekends.
CNNi took the first hour of CNN-US's AC360 at 1am BST when normally it only takes the 3am hour (Piers Morgan is in between). Domestic CNN's extra graphics are very ugly to look at.
Fox were telling us they have wiped their Saturday schedule from 9am ET (2pm BST) onwards for Hurricane coverage, which would curtail Fox & Friends Saturday by an hour. Fox have added a panel of graphics to the right hand side, which is much tidier than CNN's.
BBC World have had a few filed reports plus some studio analysis by Peter Gibbs of the Weathercentre, who was interviewed by Pascale Harter at the World newsdesk.
They have played - over and over again - that aggressive mayor who kept telling the people to get off the beach!
John Zarella reporting live just a few moments ago on CNN. Almost exactly 20 years ago, I watched him report from the rain and the wind as Hurricane Andrew struck Florida. He's one of the few CNN correspondents from that era to remain with the network.
CNNI are using Irene as an excuse to shut down for the weekend, switching between CNN/US coverage and taped programming - ignoring all the weekends other news including Libya
Very good stream there! During the ad breaks you can hear (I gather it's the producer) talking to the presenters running through the line up for the next hour.
Incidently The streams I posted above aren't always continuous, WFMY was good but have now finished their news for now (it looks like a sister station of WUSA, both CBS affiliates owned by Gannett)
