Not just a Sky thing, but I've noticed recently that the feed from the Commons now appears to be native HD and not upscaled. Is this related to the new camera angles, including the one looking from the Speaker's end to the main doors (which I assume due to Covid are left open)?

Indeed. Not related, though - those shots have been there for a while but they don't use them a lot.

I've always found that shot from the Speaker's chair quite jarring, suddenly switching to a reverse-angle shot and breaking the 180 degree rule. It always feels to me for a moment that everyone's swapped sides in the Commons.

Were the cameras HD before but didn’t have the HD gallery? It looked fantastic when I remember Brexit negotiations.

I guess Sky got a HD feed that bypassed the gallery? Maybe straight out the CCU.

Agree looks good in native HD now.

I don't think Sky would have had clean feeds from each camera in the HoC (which is what having a CCU output would mean). The HoC TV operation operates to strict legal coverage rules. (The directors of the coverage have to follow rules about which shots can be used in each situation - how many reaction shots etc.)

If Sky were cutting their own mix, Sky would need to be following shot-for-shot to ensure they complied too.

Correct. Sky have the HoC cut and the emergency wide - that’s it.

Interesting! Wonder how Sky had HD feeds for Brexit a few months ago then. Though If I remember I think it was just the front facing camera that was HD.

I don’t think they did.

That's my understanding too. I must admit I watched the lunchtime BoJo show today on the Beeb, and it didn't jump out to me as native HD

There were noticeable jumps in quality between the permanent cameras and the additional ones used for the prorogation / state opening ceremonies last year.

Have they now upgraded the q-ball cameras used at the speakers chair end of the chamber, as they were looking dreadful last year even in SD?

They still don't look great.

Brexit coverage was given by Parliamentary Broadcast Unit to UK broadcasters in No4 Millbank directly off the vision mixer.

The current coverage - from new premises - is in HD to No4. Uk broadcasters are able to use it as they wish from that point.

Thanks - thought so.

It looks like they downloaded it off a stock image website and didn't bother paying to get it without the watermark.

For no particular reason I’ll point out Kent House Is just in shot camera left.
