Oh Christ. I hope that there are no kids caught up in this incident. Sad

The trouble is there isn’t much you can report on an going hostage situation if you’re a responsible broadcaster.

Well it’s at a Bowling alley on a Sunday afternoon. So it depends on the motivations of those involved. I hope it will pass off without any casualties.

Reports of 2 hostages, which would suggest a grudge of some kind rather than a terrorist type of incident considering how many people would have been in the bowling alley at the time

A witness said the gunman told him and his two young sons to leave the building and another tweet said the hostages are all staff.
Meanwhile some tweets have mentioned that a Sky reporter described Nuneaton as northern England when it is the Midlands.

Sky have apparently just interviewed a witness saying she has been told it's an ex employee of the bowling alley.

The main thing this story has shown is the lack of geographical knowledge and google skills at certain broadcasters, who are continuing to call a place with no shops a retail park and seem to think Nuneaton is in the north of England...

I also saw a tweet saying a reporter called Frankie's and Benny an ice cream parlour and calling this weekend a bank holiday weekend.

The BBC News channel initially kept showing a map that showed Nuneaton's position in relation to Birmingham only.

Speaking as someone who originally hails from Warwickshire, I would suggest that its proximity to Coventry would seem a damn sight more relevant to locals than its proximity to Brum.

Thankfully, they have now revised the map to also label Coventry.

EDIT: And now they've removed the Coventry label again! Rolling Eyes

EDIT 2: They really can't make up their sodding minds whether to also label Coventry. It's now back again.
