Meanwhile in Miami, WPLG the ABC affiliate, aired blurred footage of an alligator chewing on the body of a plane crash victim. Apparently four days ago a plane went on an unauthorized trip and was missing. The wreckage was found in the Everglades on Wednesday night.
This is extremely poor taste. If they must show something just show the plane or investigators around the wreckage.
It's in no way in the interests of the public to broadcast this kind of stuff although it clearly is interesting to the public. It's all clearly about chasing ratings. It obviously affects people in the vicinity and those looking to travel but that should be done in an informative and tasteful well and not live or near live pictures.
I remember there was a period about say 10 years ago when everytime you turned on Fox News you'd see a live car chase, once culminating in the gentleman in pursuit being flung out the windscreen I imagine this resulted in his death. I think these days these things would be on delay so that wouldn't happen but still these situations are a very personal tragedy for those and the families of those involved so shouldn't be broadcast on TV along with a TV sport style commentary.
Don't even want to think about the alligator thing.
I have now watched a bit of the report, nothing wrong in reporting the story I'd have left out the pixelated footage. The tone of 'anchors' and reporters is disgraceful as they sound very excited about the whole thing and there is no sense of tragedy that has occurred.
Seeing helicopters covering live news, always reminds me of Fahrenheit 451. The movie anyway. And to add the multiple screens in our homes, use of antidepressant drugs, and so on, it did well to predict some of the future!
