Harry in Afghanistan

Prince Harry has been fighting in Afghanistan for the last 10 weeks under a news-blackout for his protection.

Nina Hossain broke the news on ITV1 during a break for Golden Balls, with Breaking News strap, from the newsroom. It also cunningly acted as a plug for the Evening News!

Have the BBC done anything or are they waiting until Six?

I just posted something over on the BBC News General thread. Isn't this all a bit OTT??

Mark Austin is in Afghanistan I believe, so there has obviously been time to prepare.

This was subject to a news blackout but broke when the news leaked on the US website the Drudge Report. So I suppose ITV wanted to get the news out quick and draw in viewers for 1830.

About as exciting as a British Earthquake.

Oh well, it's only fair, all the other troops got the same level of coverage I suppose.

I would be REALLY REALLY appreciative if anyone here could record/capture high quality video of how the other news channels are covering this, BBC, Sky, Al Jaz, CNN, Fox News

I feel sorry for Harry, being prematurely plucked out of Hellmand, because of a greedy blogger wanting some cheap headlines.

So that's where he's been for the last couple of weeks. Pretty good planning IMO by ITV - the others may have reporters out there, but I think it'll pay off for ITV to have sent Mark out to host on location.

The Evening News will be live on location with Mark Austin (as posted above), for a special edition and Nina Hossain will be in the studio for other news.

Exactly as it should be handled. The press should never have been allowed to report where and when Harry was deployed to serve Queen ( in his case Grandmama) and country. It would have put too many lives in danger.Not that he himself looked like he was on the frontline.
