I have always enjoyed the BBC News Review of the Year which used to be broadcast a few days before New Year around 10.30pm on BBC1.

This year it seemed to disappear from the scedules. Did I miss it or has the Review been scrapped?

It was on BBC One at 1230pm on either the 21st or 22nd Dec. Might have been repeated, but I don't know.

Yep - it has been a daytime show for a couple of years now.

Thank you for troubling to reply but I have read the Radio Times and cannot find any mention of a Review of the Year on BBC1. There was a Radio 4 programme but I see neither sight nor sound of it on BBCTV. Can anyone tell me the exact date and time of the broadcast?

Thank you Andrew for putting me straight. But how odd to broadcast a Review of the Year a full two weeks before the end of the year! In the past the show was put out around 10pm on December 28-30. If that had happened this year the BBC could have included the year's biggest story - the Asian Earthquake.

It seems a sadness to me that they are willing to schedule "Winners and Losers of 2004" at 9pm on BBC2 - a simplistic, celebrity-based approach to current affairs - but not willing to broadcast a serious news review at a peak time.

I think it's a shame the proper review isn't on any longer, either.

First ITV (ITN) dropped it, I think in the late 1980s, eventually the BBC does the same.

Plenty of reviews, often split between different genres like hard news, politics, business, sport, showbiz, etc, etc, on the various rolling networks, but not the same as a good, well-packaged general review like they used to do.

Progress? I think not.

The Review specials for News24 were dropped (for obvious reasons).
