For several years now, my local GWR radio station has played out a promotion for that evening's edition of Meridian Tonight every weekday at around 5:30pm. Is this the case with all GWR stations and their corresponding local ITV stations? If so, does ITV have a pay deal with GWR for this cross-promotion?

I think it's simply a case of it being treated as any advertisement.

Meridian Tonight also advertise their programme running order on Invicta FM, which is a Capital FM station, and have done for a good few years. So it would appear that Meridian think it's money well spent booking up ad slots on local radio stations in the region.

I'm not sure of any other region that does this - I have faint memories of hearing one for London Tonight years ago. Whether this actually happened or me making stuff up I know not...

I remember late last year when I was listening to Century FM (Manchester version) and they had Tony Morris on the phone promoting Granada Reports at 4.30pm-ish.

I wouldn't have thought that radio stations do this sort of thing as ITV PLC doesn't own any radio stations.

2CR FM seems to have very close ties to Meridian - Fred Dineage often phones up for a chat, especially during the breakfast show. Also, the star of one of Meridian's most popular regional (yes, regional!) programmes, Monkey Business, makes regular contact with the Morning Crew to update us on his campaigns to save chimpanzees from cruelty in Thailand, etc.

..yet. God help us if they ever get their hands on any. GWR does seem to be ITV in radio form, though, as is evident from their annoying network programmes/schedules and such. Each station is basically a clone of the others - now where have we seen that before?

Real Radio Yorkshire has a tie in with Calendar every night. They play the regional news theme, and cross over to somebody at Calendar for details of what's in the programme.

Real Radio are GMG Radio Group if I recall rightly.

Think so.

But that's GMG as in Guardian, not the other G TV Forum friendly word...
