I just read on a www that former ITN Correspondent Jeremy Hands (famous - or infamous - for covering the Falklands Conflict, plus ANY other story imaginable) died back in 1999. I had no idea. What happened to the poor guy? I stumbled across his name on thetvroom.com and clicked on a link to b shocked by the news. He was - IMO - an excellent and incredibly versatile reporter. As was Joan Thirkettle, who also passed away.

Sad indeed.

Add to this the likes of Jill Dando and Peter Jennings.

I know that many of you will find this a bizarre thread, but for me, living away from the UK, I stumble across these things by accident and chance, usually several years after the event.

RIP these greats!

Lynette Lithgow was another who was, sadly, murdered. She was an excellent anchor on BBC News Daytime, as well as the Weekends.

I remember that Jeremy Hands went to Anglia TV after leaving ITN, first as a presenter, then as the editor responsible for the East/West split.

I found Anglia's announcement of his death as rather cold and not really the style of a regional channel.

Ronnie Barker. Those who know the sketch will get that.
