This is my favourite theme tune from Germany:

Although it's ridiculously over the top, I quite like ProSieben's Newstime branding from around 2005.

Definitely wouldn't suit a standard, serious newscast - but Prosieben is positioned at the more tabloid end of the spectrum. Viewed in that light, I think this opening works quite well!

Compared to WSVN 7 in Miami, that seems classy!

Liking NRK Nyheter's previous theme, although the new Royksöpp produced music isn't bad either:

1998's branding is amazing as well. So fast paced and flashy, yet surprisingly modern and timeless.

I'm amazed that ITN were still using this at weekends in 1981

Legend has it that ITN replaced it with the synthesised music I posted above in June 1982 as a result of the Falklands War. I'm not sure whether that's true or not, but I guess Non Stop must have jarred against pictures of war. Maybe they decided it wasn't appropriate anymore and finally replaced it?

Seems pointless to replace it after the war finished.

Revolution
ITN from 1995 to 1999, the last great tune where the ITN brand was dominant. The set to accompany this was dull as though.

The titles for the Morning, Lunchtime and Early Evening News were brilliant.

Another vote for Sky's 2001 summer rebrand, and BBC 9 O'Clock News in the early 90s.

Not really - it may have been seeing the pictures of war set to Non Stop that precipitated the change. Don't forget they would have had to spend time selecting an appropriate replacement piece. I suspect it was probably library music, although I could be wrong. A lot of the 70s and 80s ITN news themes were commissioned rather than selected from a music library.

This one is another favourite of mine - CNN International's World News theme - I have vivid memories of this theme from when we first got Sky TV in 1994-ish.

I also liked this CNN World News theme from 2000:

I really liked the ones that followed. They preceded CNN's identity crisis when they tried to emulate the BBC beeps, before entering into full on meltdown with their 2009 relaunch when they scrapped World News, which was the CNNi brand.

"Modern and timeless"? It's amazing how perceptions differ. I'd put that as dated and very early 90s. (It would have felt dated, to me, in 1998)

Totally agree. The previous NRK music was very suitable and did a great job, but the Royksopp stuff is so classy, and appropriate for NRK's style of presentatio, and just so well produced. It's one of my favourites.
