The new look is ok, although I prefer the original titles & music, the new version is a bit "tinny". In some shots, Jeremy seemed dwarfed by the picture next to him, a loop of some testtubes, like that is going to add anything! I wonder if we will get the full theme tune tonight, I think after New Year they just used a short version at the end and not the long one (very similar to the original titles)?

(With the previous version) There were two 'closing sequences'. The first featured a long, extended closing. The second was more of a sting. One of the aspects Peter Barron, Newsnights Editor, is very keen on is the 'visual' dimension, such as the famous vanishing chelo, leading to Jeremy's 'Testicles' comment. Anyway, the two versions have both been used from the beginning, just depends on how much time is available for the opt-back.
Interestingly, I beleive the current titles are slightly shorter than the old (previous version) ones.
What the f**k have they done with the closing theme on Newsnight. That better be a joke or I will make sure I never watch this programme to the end again. Utterley disgusting.

Relax, you cretin. It was a re-working of the theme to illustrate the comic nature of the fish playing football underwater. Nothing serious, and the theme has already been played out (on Friday's programme). So, for the time being, keep your knickers well and truly straight, please.
And who ever said that individuality was a bad thing...
Ok they don't fit in, but it sets them apart from the rest, more of a defined look which I think is better than have the one-style fits all ethos that the BBc seems to have adopted
Exactly, the BBC can't win either way on TVF.
Everything's either too uniform or not uniform enough!

The original titles? from 1980? the font was dreadful!
In my opinion the new Newsnight titles are perhaps the best piece of design work to come out of BBC News in a long time.

I agree, apart from the font. Trebuchet was the last thing I expected! But I managed to get a capture of the titles last night and I really like them, especially how "newsnight" forms at the end. The glass effect is nice as well, it really looks complete and very well done.

Newsnight always seems to have good title sequences. Incidentally, is this the first time in ages there's been no kind of globe in the Newsnight titles?
It does appear that BBC News seems to be getting its graphic design sorted now, with the 1, 6 and 10 looking much improved. Does anyone in the know if News 24 is due to get the 'fab filter' treatment to its titles in the near future?

Oh thanks for clearing that up. Unfortunately I did get my knickers in a twist after I saw that
disgrace
and ended up stabbing a Heron. I'll be more restrained next time and will await confirmation from 'those in the know'.
Having now managed to see most of the progs in the 2 new studios, I must admit that IMO they have seemed to have done a better job in TC7.
I prefer the crisper looking "cityscape" background pictures as in Sunday AM & the PS, in contrast to the more blurred cityscapes in the 1 & 6 (as I've said before, I like the 10).
Moreover, it's the "lightbox reflection" image they've tried to recreate on the 1&6 that annoys me - to me it makes the scene look more cluttered (of course, that may be deliberate).
My favourite in TC7 is the Working Lunch set. Also, having seen Heaven & Earth, I think that their set could've worked well as a softer alternative for Breakfast, if they weren't following such a uniformed image.
What is it with newsnight, so far, they seem to have played their normal full theme at closing (which I have yet to hear) then a comical theme, and now a Jazz mix of the theme. Is this the plan, various mixes which they choose the most appropriate from for the closing images?
