I'm afraid I don't like it at all. For a start it's too similar to BBC1 (Obviously thats how they wanted it), and the studio just doesn't suit Newsnight, it's too empty. I preferred the last set much better.
Is it me, or are the new Newsnight graphics TOG safe? (I havn't the technical ability or the willpower to check this... it just looks like it)
If so: why would they do that? I hope I don't wildly speculate that more costcutting may be on the horizon.
I think its more to do with the fact that a TOG was installed for both the new studios. Or perhaps they will repeat Newsnight on News 24 in the future, I'd like that...
TOG? I'm guessing the T = tower and the G = graphics, but the O?

Having now seen the full view of the studio on Newsnight, we can see that (from where the "white rectangle" is on the floor) that PS uses about two-thirds of the studio, there is obvisouly then some minor scenery shuffling after SundayAM finishes.
Though I'm admittedly always on that the BBC should be saving money where possible, I'm not sure about this "one size fits all" mentality of the new studio set up. I think with the BBC2 programmes especially it's obvious the programme have had to adapt to the set, rather than the set being designed around the programme!
Just a few random thoughts - I'm thinking now it's inevitable that sooner or later, Newsnight will be simulcast on News 24 along with the BBC1 bulletins.
Also, with two identical sets I think it's quite possible that News 24 will move into the main studio - though be able to switch about when other studio sets are needed - though there would be problems around lunchtime and at night when both sets are in use for BBC1/2.

I think you will find that PS use half of the set with Sunday AM using the other half, you can tell by the light box. The white rectangle on the floor, is smaller than it appears in that screen shot, it is only present down the bottom right hand corner of that shot, with step up to the platform extending the rectangle, hence it looks like the PS use more of the set than they do.
Not really that much of Newsnight was in the studio last night so there wasn't much chance to see it (I was watching 24 after 11 so there may have been more then). The first report lasted until well gone 10.45 and Paxo's key note interview was recorded outside the studio.
There's something about the new titles for Newsnight that I'm not sure about. I can't explain it but just looks like they don't fit in.
And who ever said that individuality was a bad thing...
Ok they don't fit in, but it sets them apart from the rest, more of a defined look which I think is better than have the one-style fits all ethos that the BBc seems to have adopted
