The screens in N6 are looking really bad now....after such a short time. It's looking embarassing - did they get them on the cheap?
. The weather bulletin tonight at the end of the Six was the worst I have seen so far - screens not at the same brightness, white line where no image shown between two screens

Well Andy said that Sunday AM would be back with a new set next week - so preumably it'll be the first with the new set.

If you'll notice the screens aren't configured properly either - the "WEATHER" is mismatched. IMO that's the only let down of the new set.

Yes and unfortnately the screens ARE the set, so the whole thing looks a little out of place.

The digital regions have more of an issue. This is becuase their galleries are running 16:9 - but because the analogue network is master, the "network through the desk" is the analogue 4:3 network (usually containing 14:9 letterbox material) routed through an ARC (Aspect Ratio Converter) which converts this to 14:9 pillarbox in a 16:9 frame. This then passes through the vision mixer, before being ARCed back to 4:3 (using 14:9 letterbox).
Each ARC adds a frame of delay - and if you synchronise as well you could easily add a 3rd frame. Therefore as you soft-opt in and out of analogue network you add/remove a couple of frames of delay.
In entirely analogue regions (there aren't many left) which genlock the station to network rather than synchronise - there is no delay at all on the soft-opt, just an occasional NICAM splat caused by a SIS disturbance.
Cambridge is different because the soft-opt switch is at the transmitter - and there is a synchroniser on-site which can add quite a few fields of delay.

all either new buildings or new kit in the case of Manchester - I wonder if these have been set up with digital as the primary service rather than analogue in terms of the timings, because they all seem to be clean on digital.
Have to say I don't see many analogue opts, my BBC One analogue reception is via a somewhat dodgy relay rather than off Emley.

The new Newsnight set is looking nice (especially the sofa), but it's looking like a clone of N6 with the lightboxes above the desk area (and no doubt over the sofa too).
The has been confirmed on the website as Monday 22 May.

The weather seems to be being presented at an angle at the moment. It looked better when it was presented straight on, as the mismatch between the screens did not show up as much.

I beg to differ, the "white line" between those two screens is getting worse as the days pass, this is how bad it was on the ONE weather report today:

I was not actually commenting on the lines between the screens, but the contrast in colour. If you notice on the weather the top centre screen is darker than the other screens. I admit the lines between the screens have been gradually getting worse. I half expect them to decamp to the Newsnight studio for a weekend, once it is operational, so that they can fix the problem.

We have furniture. And pretend guests. Let's hope by Monday 22 May we find some real ones.
Sigh... it really is a carbom copy of N6... what a shame, as good as N6 may or may not be, it does seem a waste to have two studios with essentially the same setup. Still least we know we'll see it in action next week.

The Sofa looks a little wierd, it appears in that picture that part of it will be backless, unless they are going to have footstalls. You can see the sofa to the left of the guy on the lefts leg. Plus is there going to be a table at the end of the sofa as well as in the centre?
