How odd that Moira didn't present the news yesterday. She was on today doing the Sunday lunchtime news.

Sunday AM and Lunchtime is her regular gig these days.

I thought when Moira departed Breakfast, it was mentioned that she would be doing the Saturday bulletins (all 3?) plus Sunday AM. Has that changed?

I think they said "some" Saturday bulletins - but her main gig is Sunday AM and Lunchtimes on Sunday.

Jane on again today..although I like Jane I would love to see more of Moira. Perhaps Moira is the standby for Saturday shifts behind Jane, Matthew, Darren (when Sophie comes back) and the others?

I presume it's similar to the incompetent manner in which Radio Scotland opt into the traffic bulletins. I presume they were trained by their friends at Reporting Scotland's 6 team

Is it just me, or on the news summary just now on BBC One with Jane Hill, was there not a very noticeable crack between some panels of the screen behind her right shoulder (when she was standing at the start of the summary).

I noticed it too, and many others must've done so too. This is quite bad after only 2 weeks Confused

PS: I did like Jane's stance at the start of the bulletin, leaning back to her left heel, and leaving the right shoe at a slight angle - hehe, not at all "serious news" but more "temptress" - (OK sue me BBC NEWS) Rolling Eyes

OK FANTASY OVER Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad

I've spotted it a few times during Breakfast, but it seemed even more noticeable during the weather the other evening.

Has anyone noticed that the titles for the nationals still jump! Even the 6 sting does!

It is a problem with BBC North West opting in and out, rather than the national titles. No idea why, but for some reason when they opt back in to Network for the title sequence after regional headlines, they lag behind by about half a second or slightly less, then suddenly catch up which results in the jump.

Noggin will correct me on this I'm sure, but it's to do with the network feed being routed to pass through the regional studio. It's a technique called soft opting - because you can get a jump and a splat on the sound they put network output on the studio mixers, and put the studio in circuit at a point where it's hopefully not going to be as noticeable.

Then when the opt is called they can just cut to a local source cleanly. Routing network via the studio means it takes a slightly longer path, plus there are probably synchronisers in the equation too. All this adds up to the delay you mention, and so when they opt back out of circuit there is a jump again, and the six headlines sequence doesn't really have any nice quiet bits to mask the opt.

That's all based on analogue mind you

It seems to be common to the opt in the north, Hull, Leeds & Manchester. Sad really when the most basic channel presentation can't be performed properly.

all either new buildings or new kit in the case of Manchester - I wonder if these have been set up with digital as the primary service rather than analogue in terms of the timings, because they all seem to be clean on digital.

Have to say I don't see many analogue opts, my BBC One analogue reception is via a somewhat dodgy relay rather than off Emley.

The cracks have been noticeable from the very start - this detail (and those corners) is what lets the new look down IMO.

Just a quick comment - I've quite enjoyed the "Visit London" 'studio' near Ken's egg opposite the Tower of London that Marr's been using for Sunday AM over the past couple of weeks.

It wouldn't be too bad as a permanent location for a programme.

Are they in the new studio today then? Working Lunch should be in there.

That's nothing compared to the jump's there used to be on C4 Cricket/Racing. Used to get C4 cricket sending their pictures down to BT tower, then to C4, back to BT tower, up to C4 racing, back to BT tower, and finally back to C4. It was most fun when there was cricket in Leeds and racing at York. On clear days the sites could see each other (from blimp/helicopter to blimp/helicopter)!

All this was done so that they could use transitions between sports.
