*THAT'S* N6? Where did all that space come from?

That's exactly what I was thinking!! Shocked

It looks so spacious now that I can't believe it's coming from the same studio. Very nice set and I love the way the clouds change on the background, it'll be interesting to see what the main bulletins do with all of that space, the desk bit I can see but what will they do with the sofa area?

Incidentally I was watching the titles from the 9 O'Clock News when it had that outer space look, I forgot how much I loved that as a child & and it's still very punchy and exciting to watch to this very day.

It's the daytime news graphic, so maybe thats staying?

Would ignore what you see in the screens during rehearsals - often material is used that is to hand - rather than what will finally be used. They could have just needed something different to put in a "virtual" screen in the wall.

(Lots of projector cubes cost more than a couple of large projectors - though because the cubes are smaller, they are brighter and they can be sharper)

Even if they don't line up!

There are mirrors on the new set - but they are very thin slivers in the corners, hiding the wall joins. If you look carefully you can see them on some of the Breakfast shots.

Believe me - you don't have to look carefully....!

It's all done with mirrors

There are no mirrors on the new set - that's N6!

How does the huge screen work Nicky?

The screen - like the one at the Stock Exchange, and the one used by Channel Four News - made up of a lot of small-ish projector cubes - just like the Sky News Wall prior to the current LED one (though the projectors have improved).

These are usually fed by a clever pre-processor, as originally designed for earlier video-walls, that allows multiple sources to be used as backdrops, and virtual panels to be added and removed, allowing a down-the-line image to be overlaid for example.

Sorry I meant to make N6 look a lot bigger ...

There's no looking carefully about it - the corners are a real mess, it looks very clumsy and very prominent behind the presenters on the sofa.

I don't like the way the viewer can see under the sofa - how long before the dust builds up there! The detail in all this seems to be lacking.

What they need is a big pot plant in the corner! Wink

From the brief look I've had I'd say it was great.

Do we really have to have endless teenagers moaning about "messy edges" etc?

You kids don't know you're born.

You flatter me, but no, it's been a while since I was a teenager!

You say we don't know we're born, but I'm sorry - the 'virtual' era set was far more professionally done than this pitiful effort. It looks like a painted on mural which has been bodged in the corners. Until one cloud faded out to be replaced by another one I really did think it was just some painted scenery!

It's a great idea, very badly executed.

well the fountain of all knowledge known as my dad liked it a lot. He thinks it looks very clean and crisp compared to "that dump" they used to have

I like the idea of Breakfast having the same skyline as that seen on the National News captures. But maybe given a warmer hue and the studio itself kitted out with plants and stuff. A box of Cornflakes strategically placed somewhere, I don't know.

I think the studio has great potential. It's just lacking little details that could make it.
