How's that video wall work? Back projection or is it a plasma or something? Is this what N6 will have?
IIRC it's the same type of LED screen as the Sky News Newswall, made by Barco.
From the hints and clues given, I'd be surprised if we don't see one of these now - although probably not on the scale of Sky's.
No - the Stock Exchange system isn't LED based - though it is made by Barco. It uses a different display technology.
LED systems only work well at a reasonable distance - and are pretty low resolution - which is why Sky only ever shoot the News Wall very wide, and from quite a distance. (It is a VERY long way from the main news desk)

The "clever glass" isn't that clever - and isn't, itself, a display technology. What it is is glass that can be made to be opaque or transparent electronically - it is also used in changing rooms in some high-end clothes shops. The projection technology that projects onto it is your bog-standard DLP, LCD or DILA style rear-projection - as used in the current (actually now deceased) BBC One set, and for News 24, Newsnight, BBC World etc. big screens.
Personally I don't think the quality of projected image that the "clever glass" delivers is particularly high - and I'm not convinced that it delivers enough of a benefit to offset the reduced quality compared to a regular projection system.

N4 = BBC Bar (and sensibly never used to name a studio)
N5 = Original BBC World Service TV Arabic studio, which closed, and then re-opened as a studio for BBCi (though with the gallery on the studio floor, reducing the floor area of the studio as a result). Now shut
N7 = not used as a studio name to avoid confusion with another studio used by news.
N10 = Gallery used by BBC Three bulletins now TC11 is no longer used by BBC Three News.

Ok, so Breakfast is on the move to N6 I guess from this.....
Maybe someone can tell me what all the N studios are used for?
This is what I think is correct! Maybe someone can correct me!
N1 - now TC10
N2 - now TC11
N3 - Defunct, and started life as a small studio just of the main newsroom, but the wall was removed and glass fitted to make it the BBC open plan News studio before N6 came into use
N4 - ?
N5 - ?
N6 -BBC 1, 6, 10 O'clock news plus hard talk and a few other bits
N7 - ?
N8 - News 24
N9 - World News (which I understand is not in the main news block - Stage 6, but within Stage 5)
Would be interesting to know how much floor space the studios have.

I agree the set they used just before this one was better, but both of them look like a display of furniture in MFI.
The BBC's news studio just looks cramped compared to ITV and Sky and just doesn't have a serious look. I hope the new set is an imnprovement.

Indeed, many of you will be surprised as to just how terrible Sky's News Wall looks likd in real life, even from quite a far distance!

Yup, I have to agree with the "good riddance" sentiments to the current set. It was naff. Totally naff.
I also liked the set that preceded this one, and in terms of good old fashioned simplicity, you can't beat the Nine o'Clock News Fish Fingers era set. It was functional, plain and easy to work with.
