So would I. Those idents were atrocious.

Breakfast News
I'd imagine a variation of the ribbons for Breakfast, though not with a black background. Maybe something like News 24 Sunday's titles?

I would love them to use dropped in images of various UK scenes as the backgrounds. There is no reason why they couldn't have four wall panels comprising four scenes (Palace of Westminster / Edinburgh castle / Caernarfon Castle / something in Belfast) as the backdrops, and these same images could be shown as if in "real time", i.e. illuminated night-time versions for Breakfast and the Ten, and day time shots for the other bulletins.

Why not? Instead of all this IKEA cream and red stuff........................we shouldn't be shy to show off our regions altogether. This is the BBC!!

I think they're just going to take a photo of something from their garden and slap a logo on it.

Although something as simple as that could never look good or be used on screen, surely they'd have to spent bazillions on a full rebranding exercise

Only if Marketing became involved.

Marketing. The science of making everything appear very complicated, thereby justifying its own existence.

I remember ages ago one poster said he/she had rang up some BBC News office wondering whether the titles would incorporate England more. The poster then said the woman replied "We are looking into it" or something, maybe it means the titles will have more view on England . Bearing in mind this was about a year ago now!

England? England? Has the Union, unbeknownst to me, crumbled? Wouldn't the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation's news programmes be slightly unrepresentative having images of just England on its titles? Tsk tsk!

Actually it could work quite nicely - let the nations run the titles for the main bulletins locally - as they've already opted out for the headlines - that way you could make it look as if it was more Scotland oriented to appease those calling for a Scottish Six.

Or maybe not.

I was thinking; for the nationals, it might be nice instead of it saying
"BBC NEWS BBC NEWS BBC NEWS BBC NEWS" when it rolls across the screen on the titles, they might use the NEWS 24 idea of putting the headline there.

Any thoughts?

But that would turn the BBC into the EBC, the SBC, the WBC and the NIBC! The so-called 'Nations'may have (wrongly) been given some sort of autonomy, but we are still the UNITED Kingdom. The BBC should be part of the glue that holds the UK together.

That's right, Moz. That's why I like my idea, posted above. Scenes from the four component capitals / countries making up the studio backdrop.

A little bit of patriotism never did any harm.

Hope they ditch the laptops too, in favour of Sky News-style buried flatscreens. Always thought that looked rather classy, and the laptops just rather messy.

I'd be interested in seeing how you'd get the four images up, maybe changing for each story, which was why I liked the on screen story pic (ala The China Red era, first incarnation) and again, the inbedded computers, looked much nicer and certainly less cheap. I think I can come to the conclusion that the Beeb can afford laptops so really why they need to demonstrate this at every opportunity is lost upon me.

Would be much better, and I'm hoping someone has, really thought and looked back at what works and what doesn't eg. Laptops, Massive (unnessecary) screens and laminate flooring. Urgh!

Anyway, we live in hope...

I've not seen much of the set, but it looks like they've seen sense and brought back the glass-topped desk.
