Could the change of studios be taking place during one of the Bank Holdiay weekends approaching? This will give both teams an extra day or two to move the sets, without it affecting the output too much. I take it both the Politcs Show and Sunday AM will also be moving studios, but are these going to be treated to a more versatile set too?

I think what's being hinted at is that it won't take a weekend, I think it'll be a News 24 set-up which was moved for some weeks during the relaunch..

I am not talking about changes of SETS but changes of STUDIOS, which will take a weekend.

I don't mean "set-up" in the set sense, I'm implying arrangements, using the CSO temporarily.

The actual sets are being moved, we may have CSO for a weekend, but that is it. I was wondering weather the change in STUDIO will take place over easter weekend, or the may bank holiday,so as not to affect the main bulletins, which use the studio alot more. This will also mean Breakfast will not need to be interupted.

I thought that after all of the changes, Breakfast would be permanently in N6 with the nationals so that the gallery staff in TC7 wouldn't be needed until around 10.00 for Working Lunch.

How does this save money though? Won't a seperate gallery crew be needed in N6?

N6 runs with a lower level of staffing than TC7 - and so is cheaper to run.

As to N6 gaining more space - the studio isn't getting bigger to house Breakfast, but the current set loses a lot of studio floor to the back projectors.

So do we assume that the new set won't involve back projectors?

Maybe a move towards the sort of setup used by Sky News for their newswall? That doesn't take up too much room does it? And would take a while to set up.

Just a suggestion...

Err - the Sky News wall requires a LOT of space. The wall itself is quite shallow - but you have to put the cameras miles away from it, and shoot it really wide, so that you don't see how blocky it really is. (The resolution vertically - at about 400 lines - is lower than standard def TV - so you can't really shoot it close-up)

So the studio is not being extended, there may not be any projector screens because they take up too much room if you want two sets in one small studio, and Sky News style LED screens would look rubbish in a small studio like N6.

Unless they are going back to plain static backdrops like the 80s and 90s, that suggests an ITV News style chromakey type setup (but not as good given the size; I'm thinking it is probably going to be something simular to National Nine News in Australia, a very small set with basically just a desk and green screen overlayed with the city skyline, although in the BBC's case it will obviously be the newsroom).

will there be new titles, etc to go with all these changes?

It would be nice if they DID adopt the skyline of the City of London and the illuminated Palace of Westminster for night time bulletins, as posted by several of us in the past.

Does anyone know for sure that they WILL be retaining the Newsroom background? They have had that for too many years now - it's time for a refreshing change, including new, more pompous music et al....

Does this mean N6 isn't getting bigger because Breakfast isn't needing extra space, or that Breakfast isn't moving to N6?

But that would make it very London-centred and the BBC don't like doing that any more. Not a chance.

Not really surprising. It is the national news - and there are still (amazingly enough) more people living outside London than in it.

I feel this thread would be better if it had "great big" in it's title
