During a strike by ITN cleaners, newscasters were forced to bring their own dusters in.

Darker paper - anything other than bright white - was much more of an issue in the days of tubed cameras, where whites bleached out, and cause tube burn, lag and stick etc.

Modern CCD cameras are much better at coping with this - and in some situations white paper can be useful as a bit of upward bounce (though not always). Dark paper that is brightly coloured would cause problems - it is difficult to read, and would cause colour bounce issues potentially (giving a presenter a blue or green uplight!)

Sorry to be a spoilsport but can we keep on topic and not continue with the caption competition. If you feel the need to continue the caption competition there appears to be a thread running on Metropol...

Sorry but just got a few quetsions at the moment:
1. With the national set, is it the same size or smaller now that it is in TC7?
2. What direction is the national set facing - Is it directly opposite the Breakfast set, so the desks face each other or is it at 90 degrees to the Breakfast set?
3. After Breakfast, what else is put in that space as I was led to believe that all the other TC7 programmes are in TC11?

I think you'll find that there was no real caption competition, and more to the point, that post was completely unnecessary, Mr. Wells. Consider yourself told off.

Re: the set. It's opposite, AFAIK, the set is the same size (but with a little bit more room for camera angles - and bear in mind they've got two free cameras there now instead of all-remote controlled. As for other programmes, they're either in TC11 or are taking a week off.

Scotland Today had peach and lilac and had FAR more detail. They would have one headline in the title sequence on each sheet of paper..hardly the most environmentally friendly programme. In saying that with all the cuts they may have a whole script on one A4 sheet soon!! Razz

One headline (or any item) per sheet is done so that it's easier to rearrange/drop items. The sheets are numbered and the numbers relate to the running order

You are spot on..I know this from my own experiences Wink

Not worth it's own thread but an interesting little snippet in Broadcast today ...

Graphics specialist Vizrt has signed a four year deal with the BBC to provide it with live rendered 3D graphics systems. The deal, worth between £1 and £2m, will enable the BBC to buy Vizrt graphics software at reduced rates. Networked news programmes and the larger national and regional stations are expected to be the first to take advantage of the rates.

Lets hope it's as successful as TOG.

MY LORD!!! I've been warned for saying that Charlie was being told off with my tongue in my cheek!

This is absolutely ridiculous - I'm presuming Charlie sent the warning. Can you tell me what constitutes this?

No doubt Harshad Patel will still be there telling us there's a problem with the titles though! Razz

I was going to say, have those up top finally realised that TOG is just a tiny bit unreliable at times.
