From watching the handovers I think the lighting and angles looked odd due to George sitting by the edge of the desk. Presumably sitting at the edge so that the News 24 presenters could get on and off set and the same for himself.

The presenters may only arrive in the studio quite shortly before transmission but the crew are briefed by the director (a process called a script check), and sequences rehearsed without them from about 30 minutes before transmission. Also big-screen sequences with a correspondent, which will be broadcast live, are quite heavily rehearsed, and most reporter CSOs are recorded through the gallery from the studio, as are Virtual Reality recordings.
(It is for this reason ITN had at least two studios for their news channel - one shared with ITV1 bulletins and the other used by the News channel when ITV1 bulletins were rehearsed. )

Your forgetting the 1/6/10 rarely rehearse anymore, the presenters will get into the studio around 10 minutes before and record any items that may need to be recorded, there is VERY LITTLE rehearsing.
And if you don't believe me there is a BBC News DVD out which tkes you through Huws day, OK?

what are they using TC11 for?
Gosh. Isnt the "wooden floor" just paint ... so they would have to paint the wooden floor in TC7 where the nationals is. What else is in TC11 apart from newsnight?

I had an eye on the studio outputs for TC7 and TC11 yesterday, and you'd be hard pressed to notice that anything was different.
The only major change is that the Breakfast set is now opposite the Nationals.

Now that they're in TC7 does this mean they might have the room to do some nice sweeping wideshots of the studio? Maybe the set might actually look nice for the last two weeks of it's life
