Is the Liverpool Empire the same location being used on the ITV Evening News now-with Mark Austin?

Nice shot across the Mersey aswell!

Liverpool Empire? If you mean the Empire theatre, then that's on Lime Street, which isn't near the seafront. Other than that, I haven't heard of the Liverpool Empire. The backdrop was the Liver Building, which is just a stone's throw away from the Albert Dock. The closing shot across the River Mersey on the Evening News was quite nice.

Mark Austin always seems much better on location rather than in 'that' studio:-

A very nice bakcdrop with the sun setting at the end illustrating a very poignant story :-

I didn't see either programme at all tonight, I saw a promo for GR at 5.30pm and it looked like a good view, but it wasn't the Granada Liverpool building, the view where Mark is in the image above looks more closer to the building. I didn't see why they used the Albert Dock studios, would have made more sense.

Though it's nice to see GR realising the seriousness of the story. Did NWT do the same?

Looking at where Mark is, that looks like the Ferry Place & Tony was just infront of the Birkenhed Tunnel or near that area anyway. I did not see the point of going to Lucy in Manchester as she was on for about 5mins max!

Does Granada News now come from Manchester? IIRC for a time in the mid-nineties it came from Liverpool.

Also, although I think most of Granada Reports is awful, I like their LIVE strap, basically the same as the standard national one, but cuts off with the text.

It has been back at Manchester full time now for about 5 years, though Granada make nothing at Liverpool now they still have a fully operating Newsroom, though in times like this it maybe a good idea to have a Liverpool studio on stand-by, it would probably look nicer and would have a better view. It had been from Liverpool since they opened the Albert Dock as a newsroom in 1986, they then moved Granada Tonight to Manchester in 1992 I believe, but at that time they still kept the shorter bulletins and a headlines round up during GT from Liverpool, then they moved back to Manchester by 1999 when GT had revamped into the naff This Morning/ naff American style programme.

Now I have to disagree with you about Granada Reports, yes when it was in its last formation as Granada Tonight it was awful stuff, not Newsworthy, but since the February revamp and the introduction of Tony Morris I think the show has got better, they've realised where they went wrong with GT and gone back to their main objective which is to provide News and which it does quite well IMO. Compare it to NWT which has become quite stale, GR is a breath of fresh air.

What is it with the music in the titles/intro to Granada Reports though? It is very disjointed in comparison to most other ITV plc regional news programmes. The bed they use for the headlines after the titles is the same one that Meridian Tonight uses for the Meridian Report.

Just seems odd to me I'm afraid. Anyone else noticed?

Yes, I've wondered about that too. For some reason, they've attached a funny little tune before the main theme begins. No other regions use this. It'd be better if they just played the long titles with the bed at the end, as London Tonight and many others do. Instead, they play the clean long titles, and after a short gap, start the bed manually. Sounds a bit naff.

Isn't that how the theatre is known on Merseyside? Anyway, yes it was in the new atrium at the Empire Theatre looking down William Brown Street. Tony mentioned it in his final link.

It looked like Mark Austin was at the Royal Sun Alliance building. The backdrop looked fantastic. In fact it was good to see though that the regional didn't look identical to national.
