I realise that today will have been a hard day for all of those at Granada, but there does seem to be something amiss in allowing the death of a presenter to fill the entire main bulletin, especially considering the current corona situation in the region. Even if they had gotten one of the other regions to record a short bulletin with a round up of the other news to play at 18:00 with the tribute programme following at 18:05 something really should have been done to cover the local developments in corona and other stories in the region.
Wow, heart of stone or what?
I think they got it spot on tonight. Tony had been a main local presenter for 20 years and was well known and loved in the region. I don't know about elsewhere but the north west has a very strong community spirit and the local TV personalities play a large role in this. It's no overstatement to say that they are like family to a great number of people.
I'm afraid any coverage of other news would have been far too jarring on tonight's Granada Reports. North West Tonight had Tony as the top story but swiftly moved on to other news and Granada may cover other stories later this evening in its late bulletin. I see absolutely no harm in the main GR being a tribute programme tonight. It's what it's audience would have expected, I'm sure.
