I wouldn't say it's sad so much as it is shocking and a bit depressing.

Guess "Where's Fred?" will be a lot easier from now on.

Alas it doesn't look like Fred will ever return to Granada now. Extremely sad news.

"Sad news?"

'Scuse me - but why is this sad? Justice has finally caught up with him - and his indefensible crimes.

Or is it "sad" because you'll think about him sitting in a prison cell - rather than him delivering the most rushed and pointless weather forecast whilst leaping around a tethered polystyrene map in Liverpool like a deranged gibbon?

The more you read into this case the more depressing it gets, and from what I've seen and read today, his diaries gave too much information away and I think sooner or later it would have caught up with him. To echo what's been said today he'd won the trust of the viewers, his pupils and viewers feel betrayed, I can imagine a number of people at Granada more so considering how long he worked there for.

Let's hope the victims feel a sense of closure and justice after today's news.

Interesting to see neither Lucy Meacock (who usually doesn't work Fridays anyway) or Tony Morris on Granada Reports tonight.

To repeat what I put on social media earlier in hindsight it was probably a good idea to remove the floating map from the Albert Dock.

Again Where's Fred is consigned to history, they came to the village where I used to live sometime in 2011, weirdly though he didn't drive the car....

To Be Fair, Granada were very good tonight covering the story. They had a member of the production team on saying he had tricked them at Granada for many years and was a very good actor.

I've just watched their late bulletin, where it was the lead story. Their general message does seem to be that they were as misled as the rest of the country.

Seriously? The man has been convicted, found guilty, has committed, serious sexual crimes against young children and the fact that he won't be on TV any more is sad?

Unless South Today means 'sad' because yet another iconic figure has been revealed to have conned most of us so brazenly for so many years. That is sad, depressing even.

That was how I read it. He was the kind of personality who came across as a nice bloke and when these allegations came out you always hoped he had been wrongly accused and would clear his name.

So it is sad, both in terms of what his victims have been living with for most of their lives and the way the rest of us have been duped

Ugh I remember him winking at me as a young kid when he was filming Where's Fred on a local beach.

I like the way he tweeted once in August like everything was back to normal, after being silent since Dec 2012

They removed it in 2004, as it hadn't been used for a few years and was looking tatty anyway. Or had they reinstated it for the anniversary programme a few years ago? (where I think Keith Lemon did the honours). Was it still there until recently?
