He should also say that news is serious and should be presented behind a desk not a coffee table, but neither BBC or ITV seem to agree when it comes to regional.
NWT probably don't have a lot of choice due to sharing a set with Breakfast, which dropped the desks (on weekdays at least) about a decade ago. Apart from that brief period in 2006 when they moved back to N6 and experimented with a desk for parts of the programme. Short of putting a little table in front especially for the NW bulletins there's not much they could do.

I've wondered whether the set is also too small height-wise for a desk to be put in for NWT. Physically there is no reason I can think of why they couldn't change the furniture.

Maybe they just can't be bothered , or there is no where to store the sofa?

Closer to the truth... I do think the set furniture is too oversized for that small 'studio'

Perhaps the sofa could be stored at the other end of the studio once Breakfast has finished each day? Didn't it used to be stored in a what someone described as a 'cupboard outside N6' during the period they were in there?
I think the Granada Reports set looks dreadful. I've never been a fan of using windows in a studio.
I wondered what happened with regard to that story, as it all started before Christmas from what I remember, it's looking likely he's finished at Granada now.
At the moment Jo Blythe is the only permanent Salford based presenter, Emma Jesson has been on more and even Lucy Kite made an appearance today, although it was obviously a down the line job from Central.

Is it? Innocent until proven guilty...
Tell that to John Leslie.
He lost his job after being photographed taking drugs.
