It's going to be very uncomfortable when Lucy and Tony have to deliver this news on tonight's Granada Reports. Fred Talbot has been like a cuddly mascot on the programme for over 25 years, held in so much affection by the rest of the team and by many loyal viewers.

Interesting that during the report there was no reference to him being part of the programme (that I noticed). Nothing on the website report either. Just "weatherman Fred Talbot...". I don't think he'll be back.

If they havent been able to speak to him. Then perhaps its best to just mention the story and acknoledge the news, not delving into anything before he gets back

Yes, it felt odd to hear him referred to like that. It was quite far down the news agenda too.

I also wonder why Lucy Meacock was replaced by Rachel Townsend - possibly because Lucy was upset? Apparently she's very close friends with Fred.

Its not so much that they acknowledged it, its just that they've distanced themselves from him. No doubt if it doesn't come to anything or Fred takes legal action against anyone then he'll be "Granada Reports' weather presenter" rather than just 'any' weather presenter. It could have been anyone.

She doesn't usually do Fridays anyway.

Lucy Meacock hasn't presented Granada Reports on a Friday for the best part of five years now.

The report was less formal than it might have been - he was referred to as "Fred" rather than the customary "Mr Talbot" or just "Talbot". Had it been Joe Public I doubt he would have been talked about on first name terms.

Are Granada reports getting a new studio during the relaunch or just a 'deep clean'?

New studio, not sure if it's going to be at media city or still in quay street for now.

I was looking on the Media City UK web site on Boxing Day Night and it said that Granada will be on the sixth floor of the Orange Tower but Granada Reports will be there in March 2013.

I am hoping they will be there for the relaunch as it makes sense to do both on the same day.

Do we know what the new set will be like, is it just dark blue or will it be completely different?

Is there a base set, plus extra's if there is space? For example, the base set would be the semi circle with the 3 sofas, 3 screens and the desk. In Granada ( think it's Granada?) they have a large screen to do standing presentation, is that the case with other regions or is it a one off?

No, it was like the size of the screens on Daybreak, except with a black surround, its was on the Hillsborough Special. My question was more towards, does every region have a large screen, or any 'other' pres areas?

Generally they make do with what they have knocking about, I don't need to tell you resources are right within ITV News Group at the moment - Central have 4 alternate pres points in their building and about 4 in the studio, their newsroom has a large screen in it which is never used and there's also some large screens in their conference room come decamp area!
