Granada Reports

I caught Granada Weather at lunchtime and it was sponsorless, but at 10.30pm they've gained a sponsor in the form of Plusnet.

I notice now at the end of Granada Reports they tend to plug the late news and Tony etc will say "I'm Back at 10.25 with the late news" at the end of the show, they also tend to be using wide shots of the whole studio at the end and start.

Interesting to note, tonight's Granada Reports (11/5/10) went ahead as usual for the internet only! ITN took up the slot on ITV1, but Tony & Lucy went ahead and did the show as live for www.itv.com/granada .
I wonder, is this the future for regional broadcasting!?

O/T Can I ask, does anyone know where Tony Barnes is these days - he used to present Granada Reports/Tonight until 2001?

Anyone else noticed that Granada Weather has changed sponsors again? It's now Wynsors world of Shoes. I wonder how long this will last.

Border and Granada seem to share the same weather sponsorship deals, as Granada once put out an 'ITV Border' bmibaby sponsorship sting last year by accident.

also why does lucy never do the friday shows anymore coz she doesn't do her national news so what the need

Sad day for Granada Studios, due to 'health and safety' the legendary Granada TV lights (the one you see in the background of every Granada News bulletin) have had to be removed after 55 years of service...

Does this mean there might be a different view in the background of Granada Reports? It's not such a great view without the Granada TV lettering in sight. The one that North West Tonight used to use always struck me as more "Manchester"...

Can't they just redo them?

I imagine each letter is just a red plastic/glass hollow. Surely they can't just give them a good clean, fit up some brand new fixtures and light them up with the latest in LED lights. Sounds simple I guess but this is ITV we're talking about.

The backdrop for Granada News/Reports will never be the same again, even though you can see where the iconic lights were.
