Well it appears the old one has been archived as no-one has been talking about the programme for a while.

Just to mention that GR won the RTS North West award for best Regional News and they got best Regional programme and best Regional Current Affairs for Granada Edition.

I just find it odd that a programme that has gone really down Editorially in the past few years gets all these awards, even a BAFTA, but well done all the same.

They did a nice experiment tonight with the screen, they changed it from Manchester to Liverpool (albeit with that bloody statue thing) and they had a shot of the Liver building from the Mersey at night time and indeed it looked very nice, have Granada never considered changing what goes on the screen from time to time like other Regions do? As it from this it does work.

Perhaps they're switching to Liverpool in preparations for it being the capital of culture next year.

Anyhow - even in a category where they'll never be more than two contenders it's still shocking that Granada Reports won.

North West Tonight is miles ahead of it mainly due to there being no awkward banter between the two hosts, which hasn't improved in the 2-3 years Tony has been there.

Out of the six regional programmes I can catch (Wales, Granada, Central) Granada Reports is easily the worst - and when you consider Midlands Today is included in that portfolio, that's saying alot!

Westcountry certainly don't change theirs other than they have a daytime and a night time shot of the Tamar & Albert Bridges. It was quite an expensive logistical exercise to produce the night version as they had to set up floodlights on either bank of the river. I can't see them rushing to do that again in a hurry for another landmark.

Oh, so Gordon and Ranvir count as comfortable with one another now, do they?

Cringe!

North West Tonight and Granada Reports cannot be compared, they don't follow the same format. North West Tonight heavily focuses on news whereas Granada Reports does the main headlines but then moves onto more 'people of the NW' orientated stories, and then events and random things inbetween like Fred ( Evil or Very Mad Mad ) and his stupid red car. It also shows entertainment news and what is happening as well as the sports roundup.

I think Granada Reports is better than North West Tonight, purely based on the fact that it has a variety of things to broadcast rather than news report followed by news report, but I don't fail to see why people will prefer North West Tonight.

I know NWT gets 600,000 in the evening show - but what do Granada Reports get??

Gotta be less....

I would say it was around 3/400,000 because NWT is up against ITV News which pulls in about 3-4m, and Granada Reports is up against BBC News which pulls in around 4-5m.

I see Granada were trying something different tonight, they were standing at the front of the studio using the third Plasma, from what I've seen on ITV Local it looks superb, especially with the night skyline of Manchester, makes it look very nice.

Not sure whether this is regular as the last time they did was the day before George Best died, as today the top story was the release of the Teddy Bear teacher.

Really nice effect on Granada Reports tonight with the live band, and turning all the graphics and the studio red.

If there's anyone reading this now, I'd recommend putting on BBC One, as it appears that the Granada Reports legend Bob Greaves wants to move down under with his wife, with the assistance of Nadia Sawahla.

I saw that, seems Bob didn't want to go but his wife did. He has lost a lot of weight since I last saw him.
Bob was a really nice person and a good presenter.

The show made no difference, as he really wasn't interested in moving Down Under, it was only his wife, who is a lot younger than him.

I see he's lost alot of weight, he must be in his mid-70's now, he retired from Granada at least ten years ago now, but he has popped up here and there, mostly to talk about the late Bob Smithies and the late Tony Wilson.
