To be fair to Granada, they do cover stories from all around the region. But i do alwyas get the feeling they cover stories in Manchester more, but iguess manchester is far bigger anyway. I would say they cover stories from north wales more than to the north of the region up towards the lakes,. In fact, north wales gets mentioned fairly regularly on the programme. Anybody know whats happened to our old friends from liverpool, So Rahman, Andrew Britain etc??

So Rahman is working for Al Jazeera...I think he's an anchor on their new European service.

Andrew Brittain lefr Granada about 3 or 4 years ago, you don't see too much of him these days, but I think he's used as a voiceover these days, as I'm certain I've heard him in a couple of adverts from time to time. I think towards the end So Rahman was more or less freelancing at Granada, he didn't appear on screen as much as he did, good to see he's gone onto bigger and better things, he also fronted Channel 4's Shariah TV (late night discussion programme) in between, I think it's a shame he left Granada as he was one of their better presenters.

I was walking past Quay Street today and couldn't help but notice staff still had the old ITV News [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] umbrellas, not relevant to the topic mind, but just an observation.

So rahaman even made a brief spell on the itv news channels if i remember rightly! Yes he was deffinatly one of the better presentors, especially the crimefile series he did, it ran for a number of years! just goes to show though ITV's lack of quality regional tv programmes. Thinking back now i remember a studio based cooking show in the early evening, crimefile of course studio based, and who coulforget the afternoon show!

And on the umbrella side of things, thatle probably because ITV have spent all of their money getting the sport department shiney new accesorries for the world cup! lol

So Rahman often gave me the impression of being in love with being a Presenter. Style but no substance.
And while Al Jazeera Interntional is clearly a step up - as the AJI thread points out there's lots of doubt about whether it will launch so it may prove to be a bad move.
As for the Granada Liverpool move (which this thread is meant to be about) does anybody know when it will happen?
I suppose at least the Liver Building - if that's where they actually move and I've not seen anything confirming that - is better than a faceless office in some side street in the city. It's probably THE most famous building in Liverpool!

I must agree, the Liver Building is probably liverpools most famous landmark. And with the move their (if it is true) i would hope they promote the move on air, and make more of a feature of their location! in the heart of liverpool!

But ironically the move to the most famous building in the city means they won't be able to use the most famous building in the city as their backdrop any more! It'll be the Wirral skyline in the background I presume.

One of the best features of the building is the view, its one of a kind i think. To be a real window with that real view as opposed to some CSO with a camera shot rigged up somwhere. Its actually rather cut fine, as it only manages to get the view of the liver buildings by a small amount, as other buildings are in the way. If you walk past you can see what window i is due to the tinted film over the top of it. I presume if they moved into the liver buildings we would be 'treated' to a recorded skyline from the river on a CSO.

I didn't think Liverpool was going to have a studio facility anymore as all the bulletins come from Manchester.

It's a pity they couldn't move back to Exchange Flags where they used to be before the Albert Dock. Their lunchtime programme was called Exchange Flags too, hosted usually by the Marvelous Shelly Rhodie.

When i say studio, i basicly mean a single camera operation used for interviews down a sat link or something

Well you learn something new everyday as that old saying goes. I always thought prior to 1986 Granada's only base was in Manchester, as the promise of a Liverpool Newsroom only occured when they had to up the bid for the 1980/2 Franchise round, when Granada came under heavy criticism and competition for the licence.

The franchise "promise" was the creation of a major production base in Liverpool (This Morning) and the creation of the new 24 hour news operation to be hubbed in Liverpool too. It also promised improved regional news from the whole of the region with the opening of Blackburn and Chester newscentres - Lancaster was already up and running. For a while practically the whole evening bulletin was presented from either Chester or Blackburn - Trevor Green was resident in Chester and I think Rob McCloughlin in Blackburn.

Just remembered I'm sure Granada Reports did a split bulletin for a time with the north of the region receiving seperate headline summary from the Lancaster news room - good old Bob Smithies in the hot seat up there. I have a feeling this was around the time that Granada lost the IOM to Border but it may have been later than that.
