It's still there, I went past the building last week, but AIUI it is now only used as a Newsroom for Granada, though I'd guess not many people are employed there as there once was, but it has to be there to show that Granada isn't all pro-Manchester, hence forth why it was opened back in 1986. Though the last major thing to come there was Shop!, but unfortunately that was a decision by the now defunct Littlewoods Index to end the service, not Granada.
Though it has been suggested by other Members of the Forum that they should move all News presentation to Liverpool, as it would make it easier if and when Granada plan to relocate from Quay Street in the near future.
It's just a shame that a region as big as Granada is served by One Transmitter only. It's a bit of a bad situation in that sense, merely because Granada Reports always came from Manchester until 1986, then that switched to Liverpool, then by about 1992 the main programme came from Manchester, but the summaries came from Liverpool.
Also note that Granada (I think this is more of an ITVplc decision) have in the past year closed down the Lancaster and Chester Newsrooms, but with many regions they've replaced them with 'satellite trucks'.

They are moving out of their current building in the next few months and into the famous Liver Building. Their current building is being turned into a museum of slavery. Very apt....

It should really, though Liverpool and Manchester aren't far apart, the places are very different, and in theory it deserves to be split into Sub Regions, but due to the fact that Winter Hill serves the whole Region, this is technically impossible. Plus you'd have to consider those living in the North of the region, considering the fact that Liverpool and Manchester are located far South in the North West. Manchester has a third option in the name of Channel M, though their transmitter is placed somewhere near Bolton, so only Manchester and the surrounding areas can recieve the service via Terrestrial.
I didn't know Granada were moving out of the Albert Dock and into the Liver Building, this doesn't surprise me at all, considering the fact that the Liverpool Newsroom is only a small operation, and they really don't need a whole two/three storey building for this...? Do Granada actually own their Building on the Albert Dock or is owned by another company or council?

Moving into the liver building i m guessing will also result in a downsize, it seems a very ITV PLC thing to do, i didnt realise the summeries were still presentedfrom Liverpool, i presumed they all up and outed together in the move to manchester. Having a base in liverpool is essential for a region with two big cities, its just a shame they seem to forget about it all the time. Looks like liverpool will still have only a link up studio:(

Whoops, sorry if I've confused you, I should have said that the Summaries from Liverpool did end, they moved back to Manchester fully in 1998 I believe. Otherwise they wouldn't have a view of Manchester from a Liverpool base...

To be fair this is a really difficult one as it all depends on what is happening in the patch each day. Not sure about Granada, but I know that the BBC are really hot on this and log every minute that each city/area receives and try to balance it over a period of time. Even then they come in for criticism because scousers complain they report too many negative stories about Liverpool! And I know people in Manchester who claim it is too biased towards Liverpool
It is areas such as North Wales, Chester and the Lakes that I feel sorry for because they hardly ever get a story on. But the problem is that the north west is a very hard news area and the major stories tend to happen in the big conurbations.
The truth is that it is a very difficult balancing act and coverage is often dictated by events and available resources.

Does the news bulletin give equal coverage to Liverpool and Manchester or is it more Manchester biased?
How often do they have storys from North Wales which Granada claim as their area.

I presume they lease it because the Albert Dock Company owns the land and buildings.
