Grampian miss GMTV opt out!!

I can't speak for the rest of the regions but here in London, ITN and LNN listen to GMTV talkback and the GMTV PA gives cues for the opts. To my knowledge we've never missed a GMTV opt from ITN, and I think we've only missed one opt in total. Unfortunately it was London's ITN launch day, and we missed the 1730 trail because everyone was so geared up for the first London Tonight that no-one was paying attention to the time. I don't know what actually went out, but we were rehearsing and LNN would have automatically switched us to line at the prescribed time.

I haven't watched GMTV for sometime now for obvious reasons, but do they still use the spinning black and white thing on the top right hand corner of the screen before they opt to Regions, IIRC they always used to do that, and also again IIRC it disappeared about 5 seconds before the opt.

There's a really good video on the MHP Private Parts server, not sure which file it is but it features a clip from overnight with Central and a Central news update at around 4am, this being from the original through the night broadcasting in the late 80's, the poor woman doing the news is so tired looking and there wasn't any make up on her, you just think aah bless her. lol

But they must know that GMTV will be opting out at a rough time - can the regions not be waiting for them it cant come as a surprise to them!!

It can be a total suprise to them if they dont pay attention. they obviously know when an opt is due but if the person gets slightly distracted for a minute then it can all go wrong.
