Grampian yet again missed the 6.30 opt out on GMTV's Newshour! They fumbled their way into half of it and gave up on a story mid way through to crash the weather. There was also a problem with the plasma behind the presenter - it was showing a live feed of her at the desk and copied about 25 times - the effect you get when you look at yourself with a mirror in a mirror!

Last week they missed an opt out (same time - 6.30) all the way through - we got the GMTV caption "Back Soon".

What is wrong at Grampian that they can not manage these?

Maybe someone's alarm clock keeps failing to go off. I've heard this has happened at a few small BBC regions in England on Breakfast News.

Well Tyne Tees always manage to crash into it... only by a few seconds though.

Incidentaly, Mike Neville looked like he was asleep in the headline roundup at 6.50PM... only to haistily start and crash into the sting.

All we got from Central's 6.30am bulletin was a sofa with no presenter!

HAHAHA - This once happened to Paul Greene at London Today. He jumped into his seat half way through the bulletin. No-one at LNN pres even bothered to stick up a still or logo. They just went to air with a shot of the chair overlooking the thames.

More recently on London Today, Nazanine Moshiri got up and walked out of shot during a botched 12.30 headline insert, leaving an empty bench:

I seem to remember someone saying that GMTV cut to Granada News too early once and the presenter wasn't ready, though they kept saying "Cut back to Leeds" or something like that.

There's also that infamous blooper (thanks to TV Nightmares) of that guy who presented the GMTV editions of Channel News and he only arrived at work about 2 minutes before the bulletin as he had overslept.

I guess Regional Newsreaders aren't keen on doing earlys.

Regions messing up their own opts has got nothing to do with GMTV.

Remember the ITV Network does not have a director sitting there telling the regions to opt in and out like the BBC. Its all done by precision timing so if someone in the regional centre is not awake you can look forward to GMTV telling you they will be back soon.

But they must know that GMTV will be opting out at a rough time - can the regions not be waiting for them it cant come as a surprise to them!!
