The technical limitations are probably nothing throwing a little money at it couldn't cure...

I do find it sad that BBC Scotland is in such a sorry state. If I was in charge I would be deeply, deeply embarrassed. Put it this way - if someone asked the Head of News 'what makes Reporting Scotland so good?' could he/she seriously respond with any sort of credible answer? The presenters are all either of average or poor standard. The reporters are all either of average or poor standard (some with their strange accents and odd looks are frankly just weird) technical standards are terrible (and if you ask the great people at Pacific Quay why they respond with 'well we're still getting used to our new technology - technology which has been in use at all ITV stations (included STV) for some time now)
So to summarise my rant...Reporting Scotland is terrible. It needs...
*Far higher technical standards - the same level as network
*A major review of its news agenda and sourcing of stories
*A review of regional staffing so that we have proper stories from across the country rather than token stories
*Far higher presentation standards - people need to look good, sound good, have authority, be able to edit together a report and have on air confidence. If they can do this at STV they can sure do it at BBC Scotland!
The end.

Tripe! Scotland Today is like a rag on the box... all gloss and no substance!

Don't start me on the Reporting Scotland v Scotland Today debate again.
Reporting Scotland is a tedious, press release/Scottish Executive-domianted, autopilot show which desperately tries to cover every single part of a massive geographical area and fails to cover any of it adequately.
STV may be rough and ready but does a far better job on a billionth of the budget, and at least SMG was willing to offer sub-opts - something the publicly funded BBC seems unable to do.

When you have a conversation with somebody, do you suddenly say, 'hang on - we were talking about petrol prices a minute ago, we've gone off topic'? That topic has been exhausted, so following the natural flow of the thread, people are now talking about something different.

Jugalug - funniest post in a long time, well done.
Have to say BBC Scotland's response to the long list of problems with Reporting Scotland is as constructive as the programme itself.
Reporting Scotland concentrates on ticking every geographical box, whether there's a story in that area or not. Whereas Scotland Today can put the twee stuff only of interest to people in a micro-region ... in its micro-region reports, letting them get on with the important stuff for the rest of the bulletin. And STV always goes that one step further in its reporting as well. There's no competition.
If STV is like a rag on the box, then Reporting Scotland is like The Herald - no exclusives and filled with PA wire copy and reports on Scottish Ballet.

Are you serious
Sally Magnusson is excellent as is Jackie Bird .It's all about diffrent styles and a diffrent type of audience .
I am not sure why Stephen Jardine insists on digging at RPS on air i find that unacceptable and unprofessional .
STV Scotland Today is fantastic i prefer it to RPS . RPS is quite twee however i would not say the Presenters and Reporters are poor quite the opposite actually.Their news agenda and stories on RPS are quite poor but it's because it is the national news programme in Scotland and has to cover some stories that are quite boring and of no interest to viewers in the central belt and vice versa for viewers in the north.
Scotland Today is NOT the national news programme leading with the Donald Trump story last night which is about Aberdeenshire has NOTHING to do with the central belt that does annoy me about Scotland Today .
Here in Border TV land Lookaround is just so bad . STV News is far better than Borders.
