True - which is presumably why she is reported as being reluctant to take it.
Can’t see it being Angus Walker. One of the biggest issues they have is the top team being very male-dominated.
Would have thought an existing MP would be better. Someone like Penny Mordaunt.
Esther McVey?
She does that though pretty much without damaging her public profile. This role is basically the messenger taking the bullets.

If I was Allegra, I'd stay well away from that gig and stay working for Sunak, who appears to be the only senior Government minister who hasn't got much flack from the public at large, which is better suited to her skills than presenting a BoJo propaganda segment.
They should get someone who comes over as politically impartial as a journalist or a presenter who isn't known for their political views. Someone nondescript like Matt Baker or Alex Jones would suit that role in that they'd ask questions, but not seen as being journalistically critical of the work of the government. It wouldn't ruin their careers either in comparison to a journo who if they went back to mainstream news would be seen as a Tory or Labour stooge. It's bad enough that Laura Kuenssberg now has every single comment she makes as proof of her being a Conservative supporter and she works for the BBC.

So they should. Journalists should be there to ignore irrelevant points about transport that ministers want to make, but instead focus rightly on what is newsworthy as that is the real story that needs reporting on television news. They should avoid the trap of dead cat strategies where the government tries diversionary tactics onto irrelevancies when the important matters of public health on which they are refusing to rule things out are the story and should be held accountable by the news media for that.
I’m surprised both sides like them so much, I’m not entirely sure the Covid ones went as smoothly as they might have wanted, and quite often became a farce
“Transport Secretary, I’m going to ignore the announcement you’ve just made about transport, and ask you a question about health, which you will be vague and uncomittal on, which I then can use in a report that says ‘the government refuses to rule out...’”
