But there's noting "central-belt specific" sounding about the name "STV" (or "Scottish TV", or whatever) - the name makes it sound like it serves ALL of Scotland. So, if anything, the complete reverse of what you're all saying is also true (i.e. STV/Scottish has never been a "regional sounding" name for the central belt).
It would obviously be geographically b*llocks to spread a north-specific word like "Grampian" southwards into the central belt (and, indeed, arguably the word "Grampian" is even irrelevent to a lot of its own patch). But, if we look at this with "Newsnight-esque" objectivity, rather than getting wrapped up in nostalgia/emotions etc, the "STV" name spreading northwards is certainly not "inappropriate" as such.
Yes, it might happen to be a name traditionally used only in the central belt, but it's not "out-of-place" sounding further north.
