With the imminent loss of the Grampian TV brand, Scotland will see the most radical rehaul of it's TV network since the introduction of the ITV franchises between the 1950s and 1960s.
My favourite memories of Grampian would have to be the dodgey programmes such as Reflections, Summer at Six and not to mention One Life to Live.
In saying that, North Tonight has been a gem to the area. Even though the titles and sets throughout the decades have been decidedly crap, the journalism has been great!
Please share your memories of Grampian, as well as your thoughts about the impending closure of Grampian and relaunch of STV.
The loss of (or death of which might be a more revelant way of pronouncing it) Grampian, will be a massive blow to everyone in that region.
I always saw Grampian as the station, that specialised in Gaelic commerical broadcasting. Whenever there was something on in the STV region (that for some reason or another) that couldn't be broadcast in her sister region (Grampian), Grampian always came up with a suitable replacement - that being producing some outstanding work in it's Gaelic programming(with subtitles)!.
That will be something I'll really miss. Farewell Grampian, you don't deserve to die out like this or in this way - but boy you have been smashing, as well as absolutely fantastically loyal to your regional viewers!
Through the years Grampian may have been the poor relation in Scotland and because so was often the butt of jokes around the UK. On saying that in comparison to what SMG are offering now Grampian was a first class operation.
I remember great productions from Queens Cross – Points North and then Crossfire were undoubtly far superior to the now Politics Now show that just seems to fill a time slot on a Thursday night. I remember the fantastic “We the Jury” with Anne McKenzie, the many great documentaries made by the station e.g. “Oil” and “A Prince Amongst Islands”, “Top Club” (longest running quiz on itv), the most watched regional show “The Art Suttar Show” live on a Friday night, “Living and Growing” (sex education for school children) and of course the great in vision announcing team that came into our homes every day that were more like our friends and not just a voice behind an ident.
Grampian will go…….and that is a disgrace!!
STV will be here from Tuesday…………don’t mock Grampians achievements over the years…….look at what we have today and then you can laugh!!
The only bad thing Grampian did was sell out to SMG!
Grampian you will go but will never be forgotten!!!!
According to RadioTimes, from Saturday, 3rd June, North Tonight will be no more, it is listed as Scotland Today. Will there still be two seperate programmes for the two regions?

I had heard rumours that Scotland Today would be the news programme for all of STV land.
If this is the case, I think that they would have sub regions, like Central TV. Although, I am unsure if they are still commited to four news shows?
However, I would be a bit shocked if North Tonight was ditched now. In saying that, Saturday is good a day as any. It is only matter of time!!
It will be sad to see another region go but unfortunately thats the way it is these days. Grampian and Scottish are currently identical to each other so the name is only there currently for regional enthusiasts.
It is regrettable but its the way commercial TV is going at present. Come the day of Digital, Scottish TV will need to be in a position to hold its own. There is very little to stop ITV muscling in north of the Border if STV won't agree a merger, consoidation, take over. As for the news the Grampian licence should ensure a local news service, for now at least

Yes - Grampian and Scottish are the same when it comes to programming. Since SMG took over Grampian, it has become apparent that this is the route that they were planning. The question was always how will a merger affect North of Scotland viewers and not if it would affect them.
Hope that cough clears up - by the way. Benilyn always works for me!!

Maybe so and if that is the case a new name should have been chosen - not one that the central belt has called ITV since the day it started!!
The poll might be different by the way if you only polled viewers in the North of Scotland!!!!!

I have to agree with you there Barney - the poll should have been kept to Grampian viewers . This would have meant that the result you might have been expecting - you might have got.
