More than one anchor across the global output has referred to President Vladimir Putin visiting the affected region and have also referred to President Putin during certain interviews and readings.

An easy cock-up, I guess.

Not really: a schoolroom error for a foreign journalist! I would expect better.

one could argue that he's still the one actually in charge.

Does the Russian presidency operate in the same way as the US presidency?

In the US the title "President" is a title for life, so that even after you've left office you are still President. Bill Clinton is still President Clinton, George H Bush is still President Bush and Jimmy Carter is still President Carter.

Confusing I know - and it is obviously better to refer to Putin as Prime Minister Putin, as that is his current active role, however it is worth knowing whether President Putin is incorrect, or just confusing and annoyingly also still the case.

Dobbie does it again!

The second interview with the Georgian President has happened on Dobbies shift, where N24 joined World. It's been going on for more than 10mins, and Dobbie is conducting the interview marvelously.

I agree, Newsroom. Peter is doing a marvellous job. On the other hand, the Georgian president has been a little bit too camera-eager in the last couple of days, and must have been interviewed about 20 times in the last three days.

This probably hasn't helped his case at all.

Any other networks getting such exclusives? Dobbie really excels in these types of interviews.

Russia Today's coverage is incredibly biased, calling Georgia the aggressor, and implying that Russia was attacked.

Are you assuming RussiaTV has no loyalty to their own country, whether they support their government or not?

Ive been looking through Georgia's news sites, quite suprisingly Georgian Public Broadcasting has been doing a mostly objective stance.

To me, it looks like he's the one to blame for all this. He though he could get away with using his army in that region, he though he will have the West to help him. But now he's stuck in this situation and Russia is not gonna stop untill the last Georgian soldier is out of there.
It's so annoying seeing him on every channel saying the same lies and crap. I feel so sorry for all the inocent civilans who are victims of his crazy politics.

The funny thing is, South Ossetia is part of Georgia... I think he can get away with using his own army in his own country.

Yes, but they had a peace deal that they won't do that and Georgia broke it. That's one fact that is hidden in the media, you can rearly hear it couse it doesn't go well with blaming Russia for everything, which is what most news channels do. Cool

Mr Q
Ginnyfan, I've not seen any evidence that Georgia broke any peace agreement. I know that Georgian forces have been active in South Ossetia trying to deal with issues like drug smuggling and money laundering. My understanding is that South Ossetian fighters have been taking potshots at Georgian troops, and Georgia eventually chose to crack down. I don't think there's anything remotely illegal in that. So, I'm not convinced that the media is presenting a biased picture here as you seem to be suggesting.
