Some on here might not feel this warrants its own thread, but the situation is extremely serious, and some channels have been quick to react.

The Evening news scrapped it's planned opener with Mark in Beijing and opted for the Georgia story, and rightly so.
The Six lead with Beijing, wrong in my opinion, but there you go,
CNN have been with it for much of the night, and so has World and N24.
Sky also shunted its coverage of the Olympic opening and are leading with the Georgia crisis, and have done all night.

Georgia is on the verge of declaring Marshal Law within hours.

The poignance of this story is that America is a supporter of Georgia, and will find itself embroiled against the Russian Government, some say Putin wants.

Not looking good at all.

Has no-one thought about the 'coincidence' or not of the timing of this.

Russia are very good at timing such thing, like when Boris Yeltsin upstaged the Millennium by resigning on New Years Eve.

I was quite surprised ITV led with it, but absolutely right too.

Russia Today seem to be a bit alarmist about the whole thing...

Alarmist and tabloid.

It will rake in the viewers no doubt.

Alarmist.... !

ITV News have got it right! - Julian Mannion, a veteran with knowledge second to none is spot on. This is very serious stuff.

Julian Manyon and the ITV News team were absolutely outstanding with their coverage of the Beslan siege a few years back.

I can't recall if they won anything for it, but they were far superior to the BBC and Sky on the day, though as usual when ITV News does something exceptionally well they don't really get the credit they deserve.

I should quote more.

My "alarmist" post was regarding Russia Today's headline:

Yes, and alarmist it may be tonight - tomorrow it may be not.

BBC still led with Beijing at six? I agree that ITV got it right, especially good that they had Julian Manyon there.

Channel 4, like ITV, shunted Alex Thomson in Beijing back to the second story.

I saw the rather awkward interview that Lyse Doucet did over on BBC World (the title which incidentally she persists and insists on giving the channel) with the Georgian president. Clearly it was a last moment landing and perhaps not everyone was prepared. But it demonstrated that World had made the right decision with their running order.

CNNI I believe did a similar interview. Who conducted it for CNN?
