Sky News today has been absolutely terrible.

Honestly, it's been purely a televisual version of it's cousin, The Sun [Scum].

George Best gets nearly as much coverage as the death of diana for goodness sake, and it was hardly a surprise when he did die. He's been ill for years through his own stupidity of boozing himself to death. He deserves no sympathy, and certainly not the sickening amount of pro-Best propaganda being fed to TV viewers from the likes of Sky and the BBC.

Death of George Best. It certainly does not warrant this continuing media hype. Sky News especially should seriously rethink their policy of pandering to populist trash that they are now peddling.

What ever happend to decent, unbiased and daring investigative journalism. Sky News doesn't deserve to have "News" in it's name.

Anyone who watches Sky News from now on in my eyes will be no better than the braindead scum that reads the Sun and spend their evenings glued to I'm [not] a celebrity...

Sky have gone overboard with their Best coverage, but so have the BBC, albeit to a lesser degree.

Everything else you've stated is utter rubbish.

The coverage of his death, and to be more precise, the last few days before his death, was bad enough - but does his funeral really warrant the BBC1 schedule being torn up?

It's bad enough Sky News are showing live from 10am tomorrow - and their ticker today seems to only tell us that - but on BBC1 too! It is not a state occassion, and everyone I've spoke too agrees with me.

Dick and Dom and Top of the Pops move to BBC2 tomorrow, with Weekend 24 and Saturday Kitchen on BBC1 before the funeral - billed as a BBC News special - at 11.00am. Football Focus is still scheduled for 12.10pm, while in Northern Ireland coverage begins at 9.30am.

I expected it to be prominent in tomorrows news bulletins - but not live on TV - and regard as frankly a waste of the licence fee.

UTV and RTE also appear to be showing the Funeral Live.

The Sky News static ticker advertising (I'm sorry but that is the correct word), this media event really does take the piss.

If you work as a journalist for Sky News, the direction of some elements of the output since relaunch must really make you feel quite tacky.

It's not the ITV news channel yet, but god it's really, really trying to pound the "celeb luvvy" demographic isn't it?

I agree entirely, I thought a televised funeral on BBC1 was reserved for members of the Royal Family only!

Well the views on here but must be in the minority, both Sky, BBC, and everyone connected have made a big issue out of it.

With respect to Richard Burns and the others - George Best was a much higher profile public figure for both the good and bad reasons. He attracted a significant number of critics in his life but many many people still find his footballing career the one to 'worship'. It's this reason that well over 400,000 residents of the Province have appeared on the streets of the City of Belfast today. Those who for health and financial reasons couldn't join them should have the benefit of coverage for such a respected figure.

The number of media outlets today requires different levels of coverage and the regional nature of the event requires special treatment from BBC Northern Ireland television and radio and Ulster Television. The requirements of making coverage available to Analogue viewers has resulted in the schedule arangements being changed on BBC ONE this morning. All News channels have (for competitive reasons) covered this morning's events.

The coverage is by no means unique either, Richard Dimbleby's funeral service in London in the 1960's attacted a similar, if not greater media interest and coverage.

Surely as the coverage of the funeral demonstrated George Best was a man held in high regard by not just the Cregagh Road community, but people across the world too - regardless of whether they are Man U fans or not. I am not a massive football fan, but I acknoweledge George Best was an icon to football and to the people of Northern Ireland, and I wanted to watch the service so I'm glad that the BBC altered the schedules to provide network coverage of the funeral procession and the service, not just for NI "ex-pats" like me, but also for the millions of Best's fans who wouldn't have the opportunity to travel to Belfast and play their part in the funeral service.

I had thought with the shots of the crowds throwing flowers and football scarves it brought back echoes of Diana, but the service itself was touching and emotional, especially the readings by Calum and Barbara McNarry. Eamonn Holmes was both professional and capable as the host of the service too.

Well done to the BBC and Sky for their respectful and insightful coverage of the Stormont service. From an aesthetic point of view, the inside chamber at Stormont looked wonderful with great use of camera angles. A bit of a shame that the ITV News Channel didn't run with UTV's coverage IMO.

Did BBC NI provide their own coverage of the funeral or did they take the network feed?

BBC ONE Northern Ireland was on air with coverage from 9.30am, preceded by a tribute programme. The service from The Great Hall inside Parliament Buildings was a pool feed provided by BBC Northern Ireland. Coverage will remain on air until around 1.10pm.
